Notice that one of the people introducing the bill is a REPUBLICAN?

jlf, it is only in your fantasy world that PA is a Republican.

Luckydawg, to be honest I have not quite figured out was PA is.  He kind of swings around like one of those monkeys at the zoo.  And please feel free to continue that analogy on your own.

Oh I am sure of it.  Just like the patriot act was on the shelf and ready for 9-11.

Since 2000-  we see nothing but this type of unconstitutional crap- which BTW-- has not stopped with the new boss-  who is in essence the old boss.

jlf1961 -> RE: Egypt just used its Internet kill switch (1/27/2011 8:04:08 PM)

First I never claimed that Hunk was a republican, I just made an observation.

Secondly, I doubt that any self respecting republican would associate with him.

pahunkboy -> RE: Egypt just used its Internet kill switch (1/27/2011 8:09:01 PM)

Be that as it may-   they said on the silver board- that the gold has left there-  like it did in Tunisia

I won't engage in conspiracy theory discussions (and might even poke fun at them), but I like Pahunk just fine, Jlf.

jlf1961 -> RE: Egypt just used its Internet kill switch (1/27/2011 9:51:31 PM)

Considering the average temperature in the middle east and most Muslim countries, I wonder if the women wear anything under the traditional clothing?

tazzygirl -> RE: Egypt just used its Internet kill switch (1/27/2011 9:55:25 PM)

LOL... good luck on getting one to show you. [;)]

There is change coming for North Africa, first Tunisia, then Algeria and now Egypt, the youth are  rioting and demanding that which has been denied them for years, they are getting fed up with the status quo, lack of jobs and lack of vision. Perhaps the largely Islamic old guard are failing to move with the times and times are changing, for example, I listen to North African, Algerian Rai, Egyptian shaabi, Levantine, Turkish and Arabian music and Western music is there in it, sometimes just plain Western style, or the most interesting is the mixture of Western and traditional sounds, a complex sound that makes Western sound, sound, well, dull. Now if the youth of the Islamic countries are being inspired by Western music, well we can only speculate as to what is coming, but a warning to the West, keep the fuck out of it, let their change happen driven by them for them.

In the west, did rock and roll kill the church, references to devils music and such and even rock and roll, soul ect coming from the church.

Music is the language of change.

Joe Biden says Egypt's Mubarak no dictator, he shouldn't step down...

I hope his boss over-rules him on this.

There are two possible outcomes to the unrest - either Mubarak and his son remain in power, or they do not.  Biden tried to hedge his bets and side with both and it didn't come out well.

Mubarak has ruled with an iron fist for decades.  The prices for basic commodities has risen recently, and the financial inequity in Egypt has been festering for years.

Interesting to see what happens.  If Tunisia and Egypt both fall, the other Arab states are going to get VERY nervous.

The old order in Tunisia has already fallen - though the final outcome there is by no means clear.

Egypt is in a state of flux. In Palestine, the PLO and PA are in very serious trouble. Lebanon is going through a nerve jangling crisis at the moment too, with a renewed civil war not out of the question. Yemen is on the boil with 30,000 said to be on the streets yesterday. Reports are emerging of turmoil in Jordan too.

I'm unaware of anyone with a clear idea of how all this is going to pan out. The most astute observer of the Arab world I know of is Robert Fisk and he states he has no idea what the immediate future holds ...... But you are right. There are an awful lot of nervous tyrants in the Arab world facing angry frustrated populaces with little to lose right now.

I'm tempted to add: about time too!

Dude, I know it's kind of a party foul to block you on your own thread, but I don't buy your theory, and the mainstream version of this is plenty interesting.

Joe Biden says Egypt's Mubarak no dictator, he shouldn't step down...

I hope his boss over-rules him on this.

Heretic, I just heard that on the radio.
Of course Jumpin' Joe is going to say that, *our govt* is giving Egypt what, $2 Billion in "foreign aid" a year for how many years now?
People don't usually take to the streets when they have a "good" government.
And of course Hillary Clinton is shooting her mouth off too.
Soooo,...Joe Biden and by extension Obama say that Mubarak "isn't" a dictator but,.....the people in Egypt who have to live there say that he "is" a dictator.
Who do we believe?

tweakabelle -> RE: Egypt just used its Internet kill switch (1/28/2011 7:16:04 PM)

One very interesting aspect of the current turmoil is the marginal role Islamists seem to be playing in it.

Opposition to the tyrants seems to be coming from younger, educated Arabs. Women are playing a noticeable role. They demand democracy, justice, jobs, housing and some relief from the incessant pressures of poverty. All sounds very familiar doesn't it? Could it be that Arabs and Muslims share many of the same basic concerns as Westerners? And that there are many more options available than the tyrant vs Islamist choice we have been presented with for so long?

Here's one such voice (albeit a much older voice) well known in the West:

Confirmed. I've been hearing the same thing. This is looking a bit encouraging. Touch wood.
