"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource"

HA!    What a load!

http://optuszoo.com.au/news/top/the-advertiser/farmers-to-pay-for-the-rain/280246

FARMERS should be charged for water used from dams on their properties, a report to the State Government proposes.
The report says meters should be installed in dams to record the water use - a recommendation that has outraged farmers. The Western Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board is the first such board in the state to prepare its draft management plan. The board controls the area from Gawler through the Adelaide Hills to the Fleurieu Peninsula. Board workers have already begun measuring the dams on some properties in the region./snip
See?

see what?

The government (taxpayers) builds dams in order for farmers to be able to irrigate their crops. Why shouldn't said farmers pay the taxpayers back for the use of that water?

If you use a resource, you pay for it. What a concept.

pahunkboy -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/20/2011 8:12:04 PM)

How did the Crown become the tax payer?

luckydawg -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/20/2011 8:27:02 PM)

nowhere.

where do you think that was asserted?

How did the Crown become the tax payer?

The crown got the money to build the dams from the taxpayers.

The taxpayers paid to build them. Those who use the resource should pay at LEAST to maintain them.

luckydawg -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/20/2011 8:30:21 PM)

where does that indicate taxpayer status?

pahunkboy -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/20/2011 8:31:32 PM)

I thought they were a country in OZ.

no hill, its private dams. read the article.

the allocation of rainwater in the face of the long term drought is a proper area for regulation by the representative Government, which is refered to as "the Crown". IF a farmer dams it up, it does not get to downstream users.

It most certainly affects downstream users.

pahunkboy -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/20/2011 8:39:25 PM)

...I dont know if there is a down stream to this.

Readin again. It isnt clear who built them but it does appear that they could have been privately built.

The prob is that UK law concerning rivers is WAYYYYYY diferent from US law.

In the UK, and a lot of its ex colonies, the Crown owns the water. Wierd huh?

For instance, in the US, if you want to go fishing, all you have to do is get access to a river and you can do as you please as long as you stay below mean high water. (Federal Navigable waters act of 1896) Note: I'm not positive about the date could be 1898.

In the UK, you can take ye olde flyrod to the river and if you are caught fishing without express permission from the crown (passed thru the landowner) you are trespassing. Even if you are floating down the river in a driftboat it still stands.

(the above is from a British expat that is a member of My Trout Unlimited chapter)

of course the water trapped in dams is prevented from going downstream PA.

FR

So, what's new ?

http://www.silverbearcafe.com/private/07.10/rainwater.html

And that's in the US.

Remember, the law only applies to those who obey it.

But this is down under.   Screws and water cycle in reverse there.  Counter clock wise instead of clockwise.

Not every water source will have a down stream.

You got a sewer and water bill, don't ya?

Termyn8or -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/21/2011 7:52:46 AM)

Whoa Hunky. You have just stepped on science.

I'm trying to help. When someone gets out of line at my roundtable and I smack them upside the head I am trying to help. Who cares which way your shit turns ? I have explained the difference betweent the northern oand southern hemispheres, but so what.

Anyway, this whole thing is based on the one major problem that everybody ignores. There are too many people. Was it Prince Charles or someone like that who said they would like to come back as a virus and kill 80 % of the people on the planet ? Who cares who said it, I agree totally.

Let them have the fucking water, and sell it back to us. I got mine. Let them sell us the air. Let them rent us the ground upon wich we walk. Oh wait, they're already doing that. Maybe they can get some sort of fee for occupying a part of the universe. You know once you can gain ownership by decree there is no limit. They can actully sell you the moon. Oh wait, they've already started on that. Well, when they are again able to carry the representation of their wealth, they will be out looking for more. Next someone will claim that we occupy more than one universe and the rent will go up. Got to have a positive cash flow you know.

And the best part of this post is this - I am not kidding.

The onerous regs of my city require that an occupied house pay the water, sewer and flood wall.  An empty house can escape some of that fee.

Otherwise- I could simply use pails and scoop it from the river- when ever I beat my wash with rocks on the river bank.    !!!!

mnottertail -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/21/2011 8:19:16 AM)

Fix your own water issues before you deal with Australias, hunky.

Termyn8or -> RE: OZ,"the Crown reserves the right to manage this important resource" (1/21/2011 8:24:51 AM)

When I was considering shutting down my house to save money, and go live elsewhere, do you think I was going to "have" everything shut off ? Hell no. There are valves on the water and gas mains, there are main breakers in both electrical panels. Shut it off and let them send a bill for $0.

You can get off the grid anytime you want. So you have to have water for tit to be considered a dwelling. Use a different address if need be. "No, I don't live here, I just am always here". Unnastan ?
