Grocery shopper fatally shoots would be robber.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

"A man accosted by two would-be thieves in the parking lot of a Rockdale County Ingles grocery store Saturday evening fatally shot one of the suspects, police said.
The other suspect has not yet been taken into custody, Rockdale County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Jodi Shupe told the AJC. According to Channel 2 Action News, one of the two robbers was armed with a knife, though it's unclear if he was the man shot by Ryan Moore. Rockdale County Sheriff Jeff Wiginton told the station eyewitness accounts match what Moore told deputies.
Moore's friend Nathan Taylor told Channel 2 that Moore "retaliated in self-defense. Good guy, never violent.”

What's good about having to kill someone?

Well, for one thing the recidivism rate for a dead person is awfully low.

Let us exterminate all the petty thieves then.

Well do you have any family members you'd like to put forward for the death camps?

Ok this is just silly. Attacking someone with a knife is not a petty theft.

What's good about it ? Sure a life is a life, now the next guy who tries to rob someone must take that chance. Every time a would be criminal is thrwarted or even killed by their would be victim, or even a bystander it's a good thing for society. I don't even care about the gun issue here, if he'd have stabbed or used his bare hands on the assailant it wouldn't matter. That guy is not robbing our Mothers and who knows who else.

Guns - bringing the element of risk to the criminal element for over 200 years.

Gotta give credit to my buddy Tony. He doesn't look all that big but he's the epitome of a big Polak. One time at the bank machine a guy comes up :

Guy : I'll take that money.
Tony : You bring a gun ?".
Guy : No.
Tony : You bring a knife ?".
Guy : No.

Boom boom out went the lights. Being a fair, socially responsible individual, Tony did the right thing. He left the prick laying in a pool of blood and drove away calmly. The only problem I have with the situation is he didn't make sure the guy was dead. He probably claimed that someone tried to rob him when he went to the hospital. Now that I mention it, Tony did take his money.

That's risk.

Ok this is just silly. Attacking someone with a knife is not a petty theft.

One had the knife, it's not clear which one was killed.

The reporting is rather vague all around. If he needed to die fair enough but it's hardly good news for anyone.

When someone is against something rational they usually go to the extreme to try and make a point.

Maybe he should have waited for the guy with the knife to stab him before he shot.

Sure the next criminal has to take their chance but they'll probably have a gun also since there are plenty of them floating about. MAD only works at the nuclear level and even then you get a few crazies that don't care about their own existence.

Or perhaps bits of paper with the pictures of dead politicians on aren't equivalent to a life.

Yes because when I'm being threatened by two people and I know one has a knife, I'm going to assume that the other one is completely unarmed since he isn't brandishing anything and he has problems with hurting me. That's why he is hanging around with a guy who is threatening me with a knife!

I find it disturbing that your sympathy lies with the criminals instead of their intended victim.

Aggravated robbery is acceptable to you and self-defense is not.

Sad.

As Heinlein said, "An armed society is a polite society."

In this case it is good and better for society that the criminal died instead of the intended victim.

Well life is never as black and white as people make out.

I could propose many reasons why he may be there unwillingly but this ground has been covered many times before by myself and others.

If from a news report you get the truth, why do you need a court?

My sympathies lie with the dead persons family, the dead person is dead he doesn't need my sympathy. The family needs to know how he died and that it couldn't have been prevented.
