Well, I have to say after listening to you and several others whine about the baby boomers and how we ruined your lives, I can't really blame you. I would be ashamed also.

I think 63 is the cut off- tho some measure it 1960.

Those of us on a cusp are unique.

1946 - 1964

But how much do those pay today, compared to how much they paid 10 years ago? Im willing to bet its less when you factor inflation into it.

As for this being a boomer issue, yes, it is. The last 30 years, the country has been run by boomers. Not just the government either, we're talking corperations, colleges, media stations, etc. So tell me, if you didnt suck the money out of the system, who did? Who else could have possibly done it?

Im 45, not part of the boomer generation. Many in the middle of that wall street mess were my age and younger.

Of course we took the money. How else were we going to afford to keep all the Generation Me members in designer clothes, the latest electronics, iTunes, new cars for their 16th birthdays, their own credit cards, and free rides through college?

Middle class white kid speaking here: BULLSHIT! I pay my own bills, and buy my own shit. There are no free rides through college. Hell, Im spending my own money to get through college. $16,000 a year on average here in Ohio. $16,000 A YEAR.

The boomers have fucked my generation. All our lives, we have heard "keep your GPA up, do something, accomplish something so you can make a future for yourself". What future? Over the last 10 years, we have literally watched our future be spent away. We have been powerless to stop it.

We are going to have to work our entire lives, with a much lower standard of living, just to hope that we can get back to where we were 10-15 years ago. There is no beach house in Florida, or a brand new Caddi waiting for us. Hell, most of us will never be able to retire. Why? Because the boomers destroyed any chance of us being able to.

I have just as much bile for Generation X. Yeah, thats right, Im looking at you, Kurt Cobain. You and your useless followers. They had the ability to stop this. They could have said "no, we're going a different route, we're going to help the next generation". Instead, you sat back and did NOTHING!

Okay, cupcake.....so what are YOU doing to help the next few generations along? Twenty years from now, when the babies who are being born today are pointing their fingers at YOU and whining about how YOU are the blame for all that they lack in their miserable little worlds, what are you going to tell THEM?

It's not how you ruined my life. It's how we ruined it for the following generations. That's right, thishereboi, I'm a baby-boomer too. I'm just not especially proud of our generation's accomplishments. If that's whining in your eyes, I guess that tells me as much as I need to know from you.

I don't know how baby-boomers can face themselves even without the spectre of old age to deal with.

The most selfish and self-centred generation in history has squandered the wealth of nations on their own sorry arses and left a complete and utter mess for their kids to clear up. I feel nothing but shame at being part of Generation Me.

Yeah, that ending segregation, ending the institutionalizing of homosexuals, and the rise of feminism was all pretty asinine.

I can see why you would be pissed off about it.

Oh, and the 22nd through the 26th amendments.  Those are pretty awful as well.

First off, the feminist and civil rights movements were around well before you were, and are still going today. Yes, you may have eneded government segregation, but what about in the work place? How many female CEO's are there? Very few, I can tell you. There are even less black ones.

The 22nd amendment was enacted in 1947, when the first of the boomers were just being born.

The 23 gave voters in DC the right to vote in the presidential election, wich was enacted in 1964 and even then the boomers had little to no control, as most were still kids or teenagers

the 24th ended the poll tax, also enacted in 1964

The 25th deals with the sucsession of the presidency should the acting president die, resign, or be removed from office. Enacted in 1967, again, probably with little to no boomer influence

Really all you have is the 26th Amendment, enacted in 1971, wich allowed those 18 or older to vote (it had been 21 prior to that).

Learn your history, and check your facts before you say something.

WTF?  I am not a baby-boomer.

And holy shit, the US feminist movement started before I born?  Who'd a thunk it?  Since the First Wave of US feminism can be argued for starting between 1774 and 1789.

And civil rights started before my birth as well?  Day-um, maybe that is part of what the 3/5ths compromise was about.

As far as the amendments go, I just choose the ones that were enacted during the time of the beginning to the end of the baby boomer births.  There are historical reasons why that time period is significant.  (Hint, look at military changes during WW2)

You might also look up the correlation between Freedom Summer and the poll taxes.

It is rather screwed up to jump down my throat about history and the feminist movement because I do not think that the baby boomer generation is evil.  That I see some good stuff there.  Seriously not everything in the universe needs to be divided up into a them versus us a.k.a. evil versus good type of categorization.  It is actually possible for people to have differing opinions and for neither of them to be the devil.  Really.

OK, pumpkin.

I've been politically active and railing against the deficit since Reagan decided to quadruple it. What were you doing? Oh, btw, he was too old to be a boomer. Way too old. Same with Bush I, Reagan Lite.

And incidentally, I was just entering the workforce---double digit inflation. Stagflation, in fact. No jobs.

The first boomer president, Clinton, managed to usher in the longest and largest peacetime expansion in our history--including bringing down the debt by running surpluses. The 2000 election contained one candidate, another boomer, who wanted to put Social Security in a lockbox. The other candidate, who wanted to bring back the Reagan policies, won, and the deficit soared again while the jobs sailed off.

You got a concept in your head and you're here to bitch. Nothing's going to change you, as you're set on winning, not sorting out truth. So have a good time.

Maybe drop that approach before you hit the job market. Those folks will want results.

The United States Census Bureau considers a baby boomer to be someone born during the demographic birth boom between 1946 and 1964.[9] The Census Bureau is not involved in defining cultural generations.

Landon Jones, who coined the term "baby boomer" in his book Great Expectations: America and the Baby Boom Generation, defined the span of the baby-boom generation as extending from 1946 to 1964, when annual births declined below 4,000,000. They have since returned to higher levels in the "echo boom."

Why didn't you start at the beginning and your not paying attention to what happened more recently.
America became a Super Power, built from the profits of the World War II.
Then the monetary system was changed by Nixon and I'll agree that, that certainly wasn’t in your best interest.
The privatization of Fannie Mae created affordable housing to the masses and in retrospect, that wasn't a good move, but lets look at the 90’s when marketing was in overdrive. The promise of a luxurious lifestyle was available to virtually everyone. Credit was cheap, second mortgages common place. Even minimum wage workers were able to secure 100% loans on ridiculous amounts of money and those mortgage lenders were always aware that they would never be able to keep up the re-payments. The 90’s was a time of high stake gambling with unregulated insurance policies (CDS).
The people of America had been given a false sense of security, believing that their assets would always continue to climb in value. Who can blame them! Tell the people what they want to hear.

More recently, George Bush borrowed 4 trillion dollars for wars in the Middle east. At the same time he made tax cuts which encouraged the nation to spend more money!

So, it all stemmed from before the baby boom and the mistakes have continued right up to now! Consequently, America is now left with is an un-payable debt.
Every individual is feeling the pinch with rising outgoings. Those workers of the 50’s and 60’s that you so ignorantly scoff but who were in fact the very men and women who helped to bring America into its production years are also going to suffer because its those people that are due to collect their pension sometime soon.
