I don't know how baby-boomers can face themselves even without the spectre of old age to deal with.

The most selfish and self-centred generation in history has squandered the wealth of nations on their own sorry arses and left a complete and utter mess for their kids to clear up. I feel nothing but shame at being part of Generation Me.

Oh come on!

You sound bitter.

hertz -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/15/2010 6:41:23 AM)

It's hard not to be. I try to avoid thinking about it, but when someone raises the subject it's hard to stay quiet. Fuck it - I'm not going there. Bastards! That's all I can come up with: Inarticulate rage.

Hugs.  It gets better.

Maybe.

What utter bullshit.

Read a book. The world today is FAR better than the world when we were children, with many advances and many selfless actions and programs.

Of course, we did less whining.

I 2nd. 'utter bullshit'. I have no trouble looking in a mirror. We worked hard, paid oour bills and saved for our future. I now have time to spend with little granddaughters and do 15 hours a week doing volunteer work. This Country is definately much better now than it was 30 years ago.

LaTigresse -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/15/2010 10:38:45 AM)

The fact that I was born in 1962 makes me a late boomer I think. I often smile like a Cheshire cat when I look in the mirror.

pahunkboy -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/15/2010 10:40:36 AM)

I think 63 is the cut off- tho some measure it 1960.

Those of us on a cusp are unique.

BurntKitty -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/15/2010 10:44:28 AM)

I don't have a problem looking in a mirror.  I do take my glasses off first.  If I pass by a mirror with them on my mother (RIP) looks back at me and laughs.
Oh, and get off my lawn you pesky kids... ~shakes foot & stomps fist~ (I've always been a rebel...)

There were bound to be a few oddities in every batch.

Not even TQM can prevent that.

it is the best of both worlds or the worst of both worlds... pick one.

We have rooms. Lots of them. We took all the money, remember?

Work, bitch, work!

windchymes -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/15/2010 2:51:36 PM)

Of course we took the money. How else were we going to afford to keep all the Generation Me members in designer clothes, the latest electronics, iTunes, new cars for their 16th birthdays, their own credit cards, and free rides through college?

Middle class white kid speaking here: BULLSHIT! I pay my own bills, and buy my own shit. There are no free rides through college. Hell, Im spending my own money to get through college. $16,000 a year on average here in Ohio. $16,000 A YEAR.

The boomers have fucked my generation. All our lives, we have heard "keep your GPA up, do something, accomplish something so you can make a future for yourself". What future? Over the last 10 years, we have literally watched our future be spent away. We have been powerless to stop it.

We are going to have to work our entire lives, with a much lower standard of living, just to hope that we can get back to where we were 10-15 years ago. There is no beach house in Florida, or a brand new Caddi waiting for us. Hell, most of us will never be able to retire. Why? Because the boomers destroyed any chance of us being able to.

I have just as much bile for Generation X. Yeah, thats right, Im looking at you, Kurt Cobain. You and your useless followers. They had the ability to stop this. They could have said "no, we're going a different route, we're going to help the next generation". Instead, you sat back and did NOTHING!

Moan, moan, moan. [:'(][sm=anger.gif][sm=rantint.gif]

You can read, you've got a computer, you've got clean water, you've been immunised, your lands are not being set aflame by druglords, you can vote.
You won the fucking Earth lottery. If your parents are HIV-negative: you just beat 40% of Botswana.
If you're a guy, you earn 30% more than the majority, and you just won the fucking bonus jackpot.

I'm a lower class kid who paid her own way through college, and never went on vacation until I paid off EVERY CENT of my student loans. The world does NOT owe you Disneyland, widescreens or happiness.
Blaming a generation? Fuck that. Remember the men who fought for years in World War I, came back to unemployment and until the New Deal and CCF, they and their families DIED because of lack of basic social services.

Quit yer whining, get off the weed, take some aptitude tests and consider a job change. In the meantime, take some pride in whatever work you do, thank your co-workers, parents and your spouse for helping you through a rough patch, and be content with contentedness.
And while we're at it, be more polite to your customers, asshat.

I'm dying to hear how you figure this as a boomer issue.

Good luck in school. Btw, 1/3 to 1/2 of my juniors and seniors each term get job/internships while they're still in the class.

We can show you how. Making a go of it or whining is up to you. And I get it---I whined until I was 22, then decided to get over it and build a career.

windchymes, incidentally, was being ironic--relax.

YSG -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/16/2010 4:32:32 AM)

But how much do those pay today, compared to how much they paid 10 years ago? Im willing to bet its less when you factor inflation into it.

As for this being a boomer issue, yes, it is. The last 30 years, the country has been run by boomers. Not just the government either, we're talking corperations, colleges, media stations, etc. So tell me, if you didnt suck the money out of the system, who did? Who else could have possibly done it?

pahunkboy -> RE: Boomers as long as we do not look in mirror it will be ok (11/16/2010 5:10:36 AM)

To a certain extent- it is true the boomers dropped the ball.

It is also true that other generations will be just as foolish.

The world was a mess when we got here- it will be a mess when we leave.
