What most responders seem to have managed to miss is ALL seven questions should logically be answered NO.  Therefore this thread should never have exceeded the first page.  That it has tells me just how stupid the nation really is, to worry over this suspension of Olbermann, or the firing of Juan Williams, is utterly stupid, nay banal is a more apropos word.

I set the trap and the usual suspects tripped it, which was no surprise to me.

What you seem to have missed is that most acknowledged your "test", then dismissed it as stupid.  Sorry... It honestly doesn't make any difference what you think people should do.

1) Yes. It made me chuckle. Given how the rest of my afternoon was a series of "hair on fire" tasks, it was a positive moment in my day
2) no
3) no
4) no
5) no
6) not really, but it will be used as a bit of evidence when dealing with people who think liberals are somehow better than conservatives. It could, conceivably, be the straw that breaks a back.
7) Quite a bit different, since this was done by an employee, in direct violation of the rules of ethics he is obligated to live by.

Nice try to defuse, Pogo, but FAIL.

Rich,

How about a new sig line:

"Posters are not obligated to conform to your thread directions" ?  [:)][8D]

At least Pogo is still willing to be seen, even if he's a bit pissy. More than we can say for a few others, right now. [:D]

FR

Well at least a couple of the "conservative leaning moderates" seem to have gotten the point I am trying to make.  The point is that when we as a nation have so many problems and so few willing to actually work on solving them, we do nothing to help the situation fretting over the comings and goings of those in the fucking media.  We waste energy on shit like is Lindsay Lohan in jail or not, or did Britney actually flash her gash, when there are solutions out there to be fucking found.

We will not see any improvement until we get over this "infotainment" debacle we call news.  We have a press that has given up all pretense of journalism to instead become "stenographers".  I have the time and brain power to research the stupid piss-poor reporting of $200,000,000 a day, much of America either does not, or is too fucking lazy to be bothered.

There are those that would say that if the founders could come back to life today, those men would be pissed as hell at our politicians.  I counter with this postulation, if those founders were to come to life today they would not be aghast at the politicians, since our politicians are really doing that which politicians have pretty much done since the days of the Greek or Roman senates.  Our founders would be HIGHLY PISSED though at the populace that has allowed themselves to become ill-informed apathetic couch slugs.  The founders would be astounded by what we allow to pass for real journalism, and would probably be rather pissed-off at this "media" and then in third place for anger, would come the politicians.

I started this thread as a fucking joke, which many caught on to right away .  That would explain why there were 409 hits and only 41 replies (not counting my own) as I began to write this.  That so many people still didn't get the joke when I did the "rant", and again when I actually explained the purpose,  is demonstrative of either a bad education system, or really stupid people, which it is I will not speculate at this moment.  Sadly this thread has lasted far longer than I had hoped it would.

What do you think they would say about the ignorance and lack of... virtue... of the voters?

Some people (Bette Midler, e.g. [:D][:D][:D]) think "checks and balances" means pitting the political parties against each other.

OneMaster4You -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/5/2010 9:56:37 PM)

Olbermann is just the flip side of Hannity ....they are both full of crap.... how can we trust news services that are privately owned by corporations and the wealthy... I use the term "news services" loosely ...they are actually nothing more than opinionated editorials hiding under the guise of "News"

I would like to know where people go to get what they feel is an accurate depiction of what is really going on. ...share.....should we have a news service on collarme?

TheHeretic -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/5/2010 10:24:15 PM)

Look, Pogo. Olbermann will be good for lots of references, and might even make it into trivia (I'll take liberal hypocrites for $100, Alex), but he really isn't good for more than one thread. You're thread is it, and the topic will go where it goes.

Call your temper tantrum whatever you like, knucklehead.

Not exactly. Olberman pretends to be a journalist. Hannity is self-defined as a "conservative talkshow host".
The problem is not that the Slimes is liberal, or that MSNBC is biased... it is the charade that they are unbiased. I think they would do better, financially, to come out of the closet.

OK I'll accept that, but pray tell me why the fuck we needed THREE threads on Juan Williams??

This was an attempt to stave off that, and make a rather humorous point about our culture of "celebrity worship".  Next time you find yourself watching (by accident I would hope) some celebrity drivel ask yourself those 7 questions and change the channel quickly.

What you seem to have managed to miss, is most of the posters are here giving you a hard time and could give a rats ass about Olbermann. And this tells you how stupid the nation is? You honestly think that the jabs people have taken at you, represents the feelings of the US? Do you realize that not all the posters are even from the US? And if I follow your logic. does this mean everyone in New Jersey is stupid?

thishereboi -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/6/2010 7:26:19 AM)

I just love it when people throw a little hissy fit and then try to claim they were joking or making a point. Yea right[8|]

DarkSteven -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/6/2010 7:52:37 AM)

Hey, could anyone explain the logic behind this? How could ANY employer prohibit employees from donating to candidates?

How?  Easy.  They say "as a condition of your employment, you aren't allowed to publicly support a candidate".

Donations are essentially a matter of public record.

Note that they aren't saying who you can and cannot vote for.

Is it right?

Some say yes and some say no.  [sm=dunno.gif]

truckinslave -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/6/2010 8:08:11 AM)

There is a reason that it is a secret ballot....

EternalHoH -> RE: Keith Olbermann suspended.... (11/6/2010 9:00:15 AM)

The thing wrong here is that MSNBC is pretending that Olbermann is a journalist rather than an opinion news host.  If he is considered to be a journalist, then yes, hold him to a higher standard.

Fox used that exact excuse to explain Hannity's donation to Bachmann. "He's not a journalist" was their only defense.

If he is really a left wing hannity, them MSNBC should take their glvoes off the issue and let their people donate any way they want.

Scarborough, conservative anchor of "Monrning Joe" on MSNBC, dontated to Kitts in 2006, and wasn't suspended. So MSBNC isn't even consistent in their own rules enforcement.

The leadership at MSNBC has really become a joke, from not agreeing to what their hosts represent, to inconsistency of enforcement.
