Awwww, what did the poor little mousie do to you ? lol

I can't kill a mouse, can't even use a mouse trap. I use the Have A Heart traps and let them loose outside, if the cat doesn't get it first. Funny isn't it ? I have no problem with nature.... cats killing mice, but I can't do it myself. I actually like mice, not in the house, but I think they are as cute as little buttons, especially when their little whiskers quiver back and forth.

We don't have cats but my dog is a Mose hunter, the one mouse who made the mistake of crossing her path , quickly found itself a dead mouse.

So I saw a mouse in my kitchen and screamed. I picked up my cat Nutmeg and put her in the kitchen. She stared at me and I looked at her figuring she knew what to do. Then we both saw it and she ran out of the kitchen. So I picked her up again and put her in the kitchen- she seemed concerned why I was putting her in the kitchen. So I started to say, "Get it girl. Get it." She simply walked out of the kitchen- THE NERVE! LOL. Anyway the next morning the trash can was knocked over and apparently a fight had happened in the middle of the night. I heard nothing- I was sleeping. All I can say never saw the mouse again- have no idea what happened to it. Been mouse free ever since. :>

Rats were also known for chewing the fingers and toes off of babies. <shudders>

I trained my cats to go after mice. Some caught on quickly, others were clueless. I took a dead one (mouse trap, or one caught by a good kitty who knew how to hunt), wrapped yarn around it's neck and had a jingle bell, rubbed catnip on it...and don't squick on me here...but I walked around my house while dragging it behind me. The pouncing, lol.

I haven't seen a mouse in about six years, and dead rodents appear on my porch as love gifts from my fur babies. One boy even thinks...his mommy needs to eat giant dead slugs. Yes, on my porch. At least 4 inches long.

As for bugs, they seem to find flies fascinating, moths finger lickin good, and bees and wasps spicy. For some reason they won't touch mosquitoes or spiders, but will STARE intently until I take the hint and kill it with a fly swatter.

I wouldn't put down any poison in a house with cats or dogs. Even if they cannot get to the poison itself, if they should happen to eat the dead rodent who died from poison...they can also be poisoned.

Even if your kitty becomes like a bird dog, pointing at game and expects you to be the great hunter who squishes the prey...they're dead, right? The job got done. I would praise the kitty, keep kicking the mousie close to her feet and love the furbaby up and give it some treat. Make it a huge deal.

When I used to raise mice, I had a cat named Marie who would catch escapees and put them into my bathtub, completely unharmed. I'd pick the little buggars up by the tail and dump them back into their cage. Another cat sat on top and her weight would break off the swirly tunnels sometimes and that's when the jail breaks happened. One morning when I woke up and went in to use the bathroom, I had half a dozen mice in the tub all running around scared.

Marie didn't let the other cats eat them or kill them...she didn't mother the mice though, just dumped them into the tub for me.

My cats only chase crawly things when they want to. I can wake up Zelda, put her in front of a palmetto (flying cockroach on steroid for those who don't live in the South US) and she'll walk away, or, close her eyes. If she finds it, that's gonna be one tortured bugger.

So, I'd guess cats don't work if they're off the clock.
