The ugliest mouse was here last night.  The cat seen it.  She looked.

WTF?

She looked at it.

That is all she did.

Maybe your cat just doesn't like to eat mice.

I remember when I was a kid, I stayed at my grandma's house in a countryside. One evening my grandma was cursing at her cats that they do not catch mice (I can't recall if it was out of a blue, or if she saw a mouse). The next morning we heard loud "meows" outside and saw 3 our cats with several dead mice in front of them. Somehow cats understood what was being told to them a night before and wanted to show that they weren't as lazy as we thought. They didn't eat those mice; not when they showed them to us, not later.

If there is one there are several. We put poison in bait stations that do not allow pets or children to get the poison. Plus we threw it all over the attic and under the stove, places the dog couldn't get to.

She is a good hunter!   She also views me as her pup.

One of my cats did something similar to this the other night.

I was getting ready to take a shower, pulled back the curtain to turn the water on and lo and behold....there sat the cat on the rim of the tub staring at a ginormous spider about the size of the palm of my hand. Now, normally this cat is all over bugs and creepy crawlies but this time she just looked up at me...meowed...and jumped away from the tub to sit on the floor and continue to meow.

I thought spiders were just protein. I guess one the size of her face is a limit for her. [8|]

Maybe ugly mice are a limit for your cat.[:D]

So your cat didn't look back at you with a 'WTF is that?! The heck do I DO with it?!' kind of superior look? Because all cats give superior looks, even when completely freaked out. [:D]

I don't know what my cat would do if she saw a mouse but she sure seems to want to get the birds outside but certain birds seem to frustrate her more than others!  The cat in this video didn't mind this bird at all it seems...ha ha

I think the hunting instinct comes into play more on an empty stomach.
Perhaps you feed your cat too much...or too often?
Also. on an older thread it was mentioned that Bounce dryer sheets will repel mice
so it might be a good idea to buy a few boxes.
I wish my cat didn't like lizards so much....there is always a gift or 2 left on the front porch. [:-]

pfffffttttt...my spoiled little brats wouldn't know what to do with a bird or mouse even if it came with an instruction book and a zipper!  If it doesn't come out of a can, they ain't about to touch it!

pahunkboy -> RE: She just looked at it. (10/27/2010 4:41:11 PM)

She found it again... so I stepped on it.

My cat hunts WHAT he wants, WHEN he wants to. He doesn't hunt on command any more than he does anything else on command. i'm sure that if my cat was attacking a mouse, and he realised it was what i wanted him to do, that he would abruptly lose interest. That's why he's a cat.

Why does he drink out of the toilet? Because i don't want him to.
Why does he jump on the counter? Because he knows it pisses me off. Why does he walk really slowly by the neighboor's fence where the dog is? For spite.
Why does he wake me up in the dead of night to go outside, and then decide not to go after all? Because he's a cat.

You were expecting her to be all rational and shit? To make sense? Come on now. What kind of cat owner are you?

Ha! My cat did the same thing - she sat on top of the table and watched the mouse go over to her dish and nibble at her food.

Patience. Two days later there was a dead mouse on my table, along with the remnants of a bloody battle and one preening, damn proud cat.

My cat loves birds ! She really does. When she was a kitten, about 6 months old, she was out in the garden with me and a pair of mourning doves flew down and were sitting about 25 feet from where I was working. In a flash Oprah < my cat > made a mad dash for the birds. I was screaming at her " no birdies, no birdies ". She got right up in the mourning doves face and rolled over into the submissive cat position and started meowing at them. I have no idea why the doves didn't fly away. I ran over and grabbed Oprah and put her inside.

I now have three parakeets and Oprah thinks she is their mother. The bird cage is on a pedastal and Oprah jumps up on the table and looks in at them all the time. If they chirp loudly or sound distressed she runs to the cage, then comes to me and runs back to the cage until I get up and look at the birds. She sleeps at the bottom of the pedastal, like she is a guard dog. I put her in another room when I let the birds out to fly just because you never know when instinct will kick in, but I really believe she wouldn't do a thing if she was in the room when they were flying.

OTOH, she will kill a mouse in seconds flat. Who knows what motivates a cat ? It's part of their allure.[:D]

When my parents went out on the road truck driving, my sister ended up with Annie, the Holy Terror Cat From Hell, (note the capital letters!).  She also had a cockatiel (SP?) named Cookie.  Well, Cookie already had established that she was NOT staying in her cage when there were people around, so she had free run of the house.  Sis was concerned what Annie would do, as she used to love watching birdies out the windows, making that little "ick, ick, ick" noise that they do.

So, Sis let Cookie loose and watched Annie's reaction...it was rather amusing, because Annie had never really seen a bird up close and personal like that.....Cookie landed on Annie's back, and before Sis could get to her to stop the massacre, Cookie started walking on Annie's back, providing her with THE greatest massage/scritches EVAH!  After that, they were best buds......they'd even sit in the windows and watch the outside birds at the feeders.......Cookie and Annie both just talking away at them.  My mom even has a pic of Annie and Cookie together like that.....whenever Annie was walking around, and Cookie didn't feel like walking or flying, she'd hitch a ride on Annie's back.  Folks visiting were amazed at the two of them!

As far as Annie hunting anything....well, if it wasn't Fancy Feast, forget it....only the best for her!

Good news.  She brought it out- I stomped on it.

x2.   So I stomped 2 of them dead.
