It must be fulfilling to them or they wouldn't be doing it. I don't care for football but if others do I don't call them nuts for wanting to be tackled.. ok.. I might like that part, but you know what I mean. Playing any game, slots, WoW, Halo, SL, what ever is just a game. People would not play if they were not getting something back. I tried WoW for a while, there was not enough creative control to suit me so I left. I just like building, which is why I also enjoy Sims.

A friend of mine tried to get me interested in it. I gave it a try and wandered about for a bit, but figured any computer game that I can get lost while still on the visitors island, just isn't for me.

How fulfilling is camping in the winter, in the cold, on wet ground in Colonial era tents? That means there was no bottom to the tent - you are directly on the ground with some hay between you and the ground. How fulfilling is it to cook over an open campfire, get soot in your eyes and have to hold back layers of skirt so that you - literally - don't catch on fire? To wash your plates and mug with the same grubby water everyone else is and continue to eat off them for the rest of the weekend? Or wear a full wool suit in the middle of summer while running around on a pretend battlefield?

A lot of people don't get that either. But a lot of other people really love doing living history.

My point is - why judge what other people are enjoying? Why insult it by saying that isn't fulfilling? How fulfilling is it to degrade other people's pastimes? They're enjoying it, they are having fun. So their make-believe is on the computer and other people's is out on a battlefiend, recreating battles of old in a glorified kid's game and shooting at each other. So what?

People read romance or fantasy novels, and enjoy that flush of excitement living vicariously through another character brings. I don't really see it as any different, except the individuals are corroboratively writing their own novels and filling their fantasy worlds with visual aids. I think the concept is pretty interesting. I still prefer to create my fantasy world with words, but I can see the appeal.

I tried Second Life very briefly. I like gaming, and I love the Sims games, so I thought SL would be really fun. I was unimpressed, though. I found it confusing and frustrating to control. Maybe my computer was part of the issue, but I found it really slow. I got frustrated just trying to design my character, and I lost interest pretty quickly. I really liked the idea of it, though.

I don't have sex or play on SL, but I do occasionally hit music broadcast or social events there. It's the same as attending a munch, really. You don't have sex or play at munches either. Well, not if you ever want to be allowed to come back to Starbuck's again. Inadvisable to say the least.

Bravo.

And I've never gone on SL. I've seen snippets of it from a friend who enjoys it, and quite frankly it did nothing for me, personally. But just because his hobby/sport/whatever isn't for me, so what? He enjoyed it. We all enjoy different things.

Hey I lip sync and play air guitar in my living room. Doesn't mean I'm a rock star - I'm just pretending to be. But it's fulfilling to me, despite that others think I'm insane lol.

I love sl its a place I go to meet with my friends from all over the world. Trust me if we could all live around each other I would be estatic but we can't. I also roleplay on secondlife, I just hang out and have fun and let my imagination run with it. I like to build and stuff as well. Its not about not having a real life but its about meeting people that without secondlife I never would have met. I have very good friends on there friends to the point that I have their outside sl contact info whether that be phone numbers or email addresses or facebooks or what have you but the point is without secondlife my life would be soooo much less blessed. I have learned alot on there and have had fun. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Its hard to get used to at first but after awhile and if you know the right people you can pick up quickly:-).

i am a second life fan and thanks to it i met and am now living with my master and have some very close friends across the globe as well as meeting people i would never had the opportunity to meet in rl, where else can you talk with a researcher in Hawaiian politics who lives on top of a mountain or to a musician and film scorer who lives in California or to a monk form the Butan. etc etc.

yes there a lot of fakes and players, idiots and scamers there but there is a lot of good honest people just after fantasy or an extension of RL. i have my own land which i love to create and build on also master uses it for his on-line sub. some people have made some very creative sims and can be great to visit and talk also there are many live concerts and shows in sl and to go with someone you love when you are so far apart is a great way of sharing. we also used to watch tv in sl again it gave us the time together that we were not able to have.

we met by chance in SL and as we were in different countries it meant we could ''see'' each other and spend time together having the visual was really good when missing each other. yes i did do cyber there but it was only in conjunction with actions rl and often we would be on voice as well again a way to be together when we werent. it is a great medium for an LDR relationship especially a M/s one.

now i live with him i dont go on so often but if i have to be away at all then its there and we can still be together.
