My sister solved the problem with my mom when she was getting ready to send out the invites. Mom wanted French & English on the invitations because some of her family doesn't speak English. My sister wanted English because most of the guests spoke both, and bilingual was so much more expensive. Sister said fine, we're paying for the invitations anyways, they're in English. The End. Mom was upset but got over it the day of the wedding when she saw my sister walk out of her room in her wedding gown. And it's quite proper to invite guests to the ceremony itself but not the reception. Sis did that too and limited it to the over 14 crowd after the fiasco at a cousin's wedding where young children were running up and down the aisle of the church. The entire ceremony was disrupted to the point where the priest had to speak up. Not a pretty picture to say the least.
