If so, how did you discover it?

Do you feel it was found in a timely manner?

How do you eat?

How do you manage.

(I am not diagnosed with type 2- but I am suspicious of having that ailment. )

OK, I mean this in the best way, but here's a clue......

GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Only testing can detect if you have this or not.  Your doc should send you to a nutritionist to put together a diet, and most, if not all, health insurance policies have a diabetes management section that will be more than able to help you.  Everyone's body reacts differently to diabetes, posting a question looking for dietary suggestions, symptoms, etc is really not the place to look for answers.  There are varied medications out there to try, and again, everyone reacts differently to them.  Some work for some patients, but not for others.

I've walked around with sugar levels so high that I should have been in a coma......after my dad had his gall bladder out, his sugars were at 500 +, again, he should have been in a coma.  Everybody reacts differently to the disease........see a pattern here?

Again, see your doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's a couple of simple blood tests, that's all.

BTW, this is written under the assumption that your are talking about diabetes, not some other "type 2" disease.....

I agree, see your doctor.

I thought I had Type 2 diabetes as I seemed to have all the symptoms, so I asked a friend with a test meter to test me, and there it was... my blood sugar was in the high 300s. I saw the doctor and have been on 40 units of Lantus daily since, I have hardly had to change my diet, and I feel great.

Keep off sugary soda, cakes and candy......oh yes, and alcohol.

Ignoring it wil not make it go away.

Diabetes.

Soul- my email is sent to the DR. I must allow 2 days for a reply.
He does not come into the office until 4 pm.

I had all types of blood work in April.  Either way I am due again.

I am not sure how to speed up the process.

My eye DR was going to send him a letter.  The eye DR checked my sugar and it was fine.

The test to check if you have diabetes is A1C. It checks for a specific kind of damage to red blood cells caused by high levels of glucose in the blood. It is diagnostic of diabetes where directly measuring blood sugar only says whether your blood sugar is high at that moment.

Thank you.

I was reading about test meters.  Too bad the non-invasive is not out yet.

It sounds like the strips are costly- and the for arm- prick- is doable but less timely.  I loath the prick in finger. I wonder if I have to do that- if there is a way to combine it with acupuncture.

PA,

That seems like a strange way to make an appointment.  Here, we just dial the number, talk to the receptionist and give a couple of word description and get told something like 3:00.

If you need a blood test they draw the blood at the time of the appointment.

Certainly there is no waiting all day.

Perhaps you should find a new doctor.

Ayle, some blood tests require fasting.

Doesn't your DR have an email platform?

If not- that is odd.    He has to ORDER a test.   Why see him and then have him order a test- when I can email him and possible avoid an extra visit.
He might want me to have the test- then see him. Or see him and then have a test.  It is an all day wait when I go there. ALL DAY.  Why do I want to sit there all day- when he might order the test via the email?

This isn't something your doc can just test after getting an email from you.  Before you get an A1C, which is used to determine the severity of diabetes not whether or not you have it, you would have to take a fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) or an oral glucose tolerance test (OCGT).  If you test positive on the former, you'll likely have to go in and have it taken again and then get the glucose tolerance test after.

What was your A1C back in April? Because if it was 6 then, it isn't going to be 10 now. The Man's dropped his from 8.8 to 7 in 9 months, reducing daily blood sugar from over 300 to under 140 non fasting simply by not drinking any sweetened liquid except 3 oz. orange juice in the morning and not buying candy. He's lost over 10 pounds at the same time. My blood sugar's gone from borderline to 101 by also skipping candy (I was already a diet coke fan). No other changes except to add more vegetables to meals.

Des,  I can not find that they EVER did a A1C.

Bones TY.  That last one says to use the pinky finger for tests.

You'll be testing more than your pinky depending on how often. I test 6-8 times a day, trust me...one finger is not enough.

Do yourself a favor and look through the first and last links I gave you. Also, do a search for the thread for diabetics in the health and safety section here...there was oodles of information on that thread.

Oh, and don't forget...GET TO A DOCTOR ASAP!

quite a few of us have type 2 diabetes. however, what might work for 1 of us does not necessarily work for all of us.

cash in some metal, and see your physician. it's time to invest in yourself.

I phoned just now.

The A1C is a fasting test.   The DR had not gotten to my inquiry as of yet.  The gal said to allow one more day.  She said I should see what the DR wants to do.  She did look in my chart- and seen my correspondence.  I apologized for not waiting the 2 days one is to allow.

I have med coverage.  So cost is not an issue.

Pure- I do not plan on letting this drift into October.  I want it fixed in September.
