My cat, "Bubba" has been hacking five or six times a day but no hairballs come up.
I've got him on Iams "hairball formula" but it doesn't seem to be helping.
What can I give him to help him expell hairballs? I was thinking maybe a teaspoon of olive oil or something?
Any ideas?

I thought my cat had hair balls. It was worms.

I treat her for worms- there is no more vomit attempts.

Does the cat look bloated?

There's a hairball type gel that you can get at your local pet store. Not sure the brand name. It will help expel it, assuming that's what it is.

I'd call the vet and ask for advice.

If Bubba goes outside then roundworms could be the culprit instead.

If Bubba is an indoor kitty then a few things can help: the commercially available hairball remedies such as petromalt and growing a couple of pots of kitty grass (wheat and/or oats) that Bubba can munch on at will.

Regular brushing/combing can help reduce the hair he swallows.

Hairballs can lead to intestinal blockage.

Hacking by itself can be caused by other things though that should warrant vet attention.

hairyballs make me cough a bit too, the best way to fix that is a razor and shaving cream

Cats can attempt to swallow all manner of things. I also think a trip to the vet is in order.

My cat did a bit of that, the hairball manouver without any hairballs coming forth when I first gave her dry food that claimed to control hair balls, I thought perhaps the food had an intestinal irritant in it that was supposed to make hairball lobbing a daily thing, small hairballs as opposed to the massive alien thing that erupts forth from the cat every once in a while,I suppose daily lobbing is better than that.

But my cat doesn't seem to have any major problems now with the fur, ever since I noticed she had a liking for organic coconut oil, the result being, she gets a few fingertips full of rapidly melting coconut oil each day, I say melting, because she prefers to rasp the liquid off my fingers, coconut oil liquifies rapidly with body heat.

I use the coconut oil for my hair, ( how I discovered cat likes it too, tried to lick my hair), and have noticed my cat now has a very shiny sleek coat, and though I check regularly for matted fur, due to her being a long hair cat and has a history of it, I can find none these days, perhaps it is the coconut oil as she preens herself and cat allergic friends are not so irritated now, so who knows.

If the cat was de-wormed as a kitten and does not go outside it will not get worms.

Also, as crappy as commercial cat food may be if you were to just feed your kitty chicken and rice, eventually your kitty would develop all kinds of health issues including blindness.
Catfood has an amino acid added in that they need.

Most humans have worms !

When was the last time you de wormed yourself ?

I tried it once and the results were pretty scary, but we are in line with the rest of the nature, as we feed on it, it feeds on us, a complete cycle.

Here, some info on the subject

Just think, every time your moggy licks you, you could be risking infection from parasites, and it is not only a third world problem.

But if regular de worming for the pets is required, why not share the pleasure, de worm yourself at the same time, so you can't give your pet worms.
