If the Best Friend has been the primary care giver for several months it sounds like the advice to revoke the POA is the best advice that you've gotten. If the aunt isn't even using these funds to help pay the medical costs, seems more like elder abuse than aid. Maybe consulting the attorney who helped with the will is the first place to start- seems like they need to go by there anyway and see if there IS a copy of it elsewhere.
Now... this has nothing to do with legal issues.... I was the primary caregiver to my grandmother. She passed away relatively unexpectedly, one of my major regrets was not doing a video interview with her. After spending all that time with her, bonding with her even MORE than I had growing up... I really regret not doing more to collect memories now that she's gone. If your friend hasn't done something like this, please tell him what my experience was and that I suggest doing it earlier than later while the grandfather is still mentally zippy. There was a lot of family drama that distracted me from doing just this sort of thing and I'd hate it if your best friend missed out on preserving precious memories because of similar crazy family distractions.
