The dumpster was the starting point of my little Squeaks......the girl I got her from found her in one and fished her out.  There's no way she got into it by herself....Squeaks, not Stacey!

I hate people who do shit like this......but what goes around, comes around.....rat bastards.  I hope someone in the neighborhood will come foreward.

at least it wasn't an infant; a common occurence as well, no matter how much we wish it wasn't.[:@]

LaTigresse -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/24/2010 7:25:52 AM)

Because I live in the country, people assume (wrongly) that I want their unwanted feline offspring. I have no idea how many kittens get dumped at my place annually.

What they do not know is that they are sentencing those kittens to a quick death.

Not because I kill them, but because those kittens are usually so terrified I cannot catch them or my one, resident cat, runs them off as soon as he sees them. He has a big hatred of cats based upon feral tom cats that have attacked him. We also have a high concentration of coyotes and large birds of prey that adore the tasty treats.

It makes me furious that people will take in an animal but not think about their responsibilities......expensive responsibilities. Vaccinations and spaying or neutering. If people cannot afford to properly care for an animal they should not have it.

I got Nala in May........as of this last Saturday I have spent over $ 400.00 on a 'FREE' dog. Fortunately I knew about these expenses before I agreed to take the dog and have been saving and sacrificing other things I would have loved to have/do. Like a trip to Chicago....

There is no such thing as a 'free' pet.

pahunkboy -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/24/2010 11:04:58 AM)

How intrusive.  Fuck CCTV.

Do you know what they did in the past?

The old timers- would put the kittens in a sack- with a rock and toss it into a river.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/24/2010 12:38:02 PM)

I wouldn't be surprised if the woman turns out to have a mental condition.  The calmness at her actions, no hesitation, like tossing away a bag of rubbish.

Or, maybe they live in an area that is over run with feral cats and she thinks this is a quick fix for one cat anyway.   Because of where we live (out in the sticks, by a river and LOTS of open fields), people assume cats are able to fend, so we get over run with kitties, until the coyotes come down from the hills.   I'm not condoning her actions, it was wrong, plain and simple...just saying she may have reached a breaking point regarding feral cats and took it out on the one she could catch.

I don't hate cats, however they can become a nuisance very quickly if left to their own devices.   Some folks are from the "old country" way of thinking and sad to say that is not in the cats favor.   Can't tell you how many kittens I have saved from our neighbor who believes drowning them in a bucket is a kindness.

This and worse is commonplace. Volunteer or work at a shelter and the stories will horrify you.

I am a cat person, lifelong pet parent, and wildlife damage control and rehabilitator for my state. I did not go read the link because I would be in a much worse rage than I am now thinking about the subhuman piece of shit who Lisa says drowns kittens in a bucket, and I take only a thin comfort knowing that karma will come for this person someday. Of course I know there is worse; I've seen it, I've saved lives from it - but I can tell you this: the animals mean no harm and are as innocent as anything in this world. Do -NOT- let me find out where these people live.[:@][:'(][:o] That's all I'm going to say about that.

shadowfangns -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/24/2010 7:35:54 PM)

I grew up on a farm and people would drop their unwanted pets off at OUR house, no one else but us would take them in, we'd even rescue strays, we ended up with 18 cats at one point.

I really hate people who do this to animals, furthermore I hate people who take animals in when they are babies and "getting rid of" them when they grow up because now they aren't as cute and the cat pees everywhere or sparky barks at little kids and they can't afford a trainer or their apartment suddenly became too small or they had a baby.

I just wish people would not get animals PERIOD if they cannot guarantee them a happy, healthy life.

PeanutTigerinBox -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/25/2010 2:42:29 AM)

well, according to the newest updated she thought this would be funny?! [8|]

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20100825/tuk-cat-joke-was-meant-to-be-funny-6323e80.html

and of course there is worse out there and for some people it is also still normal to kill kitten (my grandpa used to do that as my grandma told me some years ago as her friend did not get her cat spayed but did not want to keep the kitten either [8|]) and I ended up once with a 4 week old kitten which a farmer wanted to drown.

Nevertheless, I liked the fact how she was caught on CCTV instantly and seeing quite often how people stroke my ex-homeless cat spicy whilst he is on the wall like that I thought to post it...lucky cat that the bins weren't collected with it having been a sunday [8|]

This is why my babies are indoor babies.

Aynne88 -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/25/2010 3:25:55 AM)

Absolutely. I'd kill that crazy bitch. I also wouldn't put my cats in harms way either, they stay inside, away from traffic, other predatory creatures and crazy people like that. Makes me sick.

Aneirin -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/25/2010 4:55:51 AM)

People do strange things, but scruffing a cat, any animal is out of order.

From the article:
quote:

Earlier, Bale told The Sun newspaper that she could not understand "what the fuss is about", saying her action was "a joke" and adding: "It's just a cat."

Petting an animal, scruffing it and then dumping it into a closed garbage can, and she sees NOTHING wrong with this.  If she had had a twinge of conscience, she would have gone back and let the animal out but she let it sit there for something like 16 hours.  Having 6 of my own and two who have disappeared in the past few years...her pulling this "prank" and saying it's just a cat like that makes everything okay makes me so glad I don't live in the UK.  (I'd get into trouble with God cuz I'd be tempted to teach her all about jokes that weren't funny.)
quote:

But she later issued a statement saying: "I want to take this opportunity to apologise profusely for the upset and distress that my actions have caused.
"I cannot explain why I did this, it is completely out of character and I certainly did not intend to cause any distress to Lola or her owners."

Funny how having her name all out there for the world to see, and time for people to react would make her start singing a different tune.  I wonder about the cat owner's car now, the one that kept getting bumped...I have a nasty suspicious mind I try to keep leashed, but anyone who would cause a neighbor to suffer by attacking their beloved pet wouldn't be above abusing their car too.  I've had neighbors who slashed my tires, unscrewed the oilpan, put dents from kicking, and scratches from something like a key...yeah, they were lovely neighbors to have.  I am so glad they had cameras and caught it. [:D]
quote:

Bale, who is now under investigation by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), added: "It was a split second of misjudgment that has got completely out of control."

Out of control?  Bwahahahaha...*coughs*...ahem...  Good.  I hope she gets enough attention that she actually learns something from this...if not empathy...then fear.  Of being watched.  Of retaliation.  Some people don't break laws because they are afraid of being caught and punished.  If this had been MY cat...and she was unrepentent as I still read her to be...and she could do it again and again or do something even worse...

What she did isn't (yet) illegal in the UK, so I wonder if because of this some law will be passed to cover something like this soon.  Govts. are short on cash right now, so a big fine would be a good start.

Since I judge people on how they treat animals AND children...I would want a broader investigation unleashed.  If I were that neighbor, I'd want her to be forced to move out of my neighborhood, as a restraining order wouldn't work if she lived just a house or two away.  Since there will probably be no legal recourse...I hope she is hounded until she moves away.  I know that might seem like overkill to many, but if someone did this to a human child instead of a furbaby her butt would be in some serious trouble.

Some people don't have a conscience and hurt animals.  My father was one of these people.  This news story pushes my buttons in a major ugly way.

thishereboi -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/25/2010 4:03:57 PM)

That is just fucked up. My neighbors cat likes to sit under my window in the middle of the night and sing, and while I might dream of some pretty nasty things, I would never hurt the little shit...errrr baby.

edited to add: after reading the whole thread, I would just like to add that while I think she should be punished in some way, I don't think it is bad enough to bring back the death penalty. Just sayin.

Same here.  My little guy stays inside. Period.  I prefer him alive.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Cat (and other pet) owners beware (8/26/2010 3:49:41 PM)

I am a firm believer in keeping your animal and not getting  rid of it on a whim, but you can't guarantee anything. Life doesn't come with guarantees. You can have the best intentions and abilities at the time you got an animal, and then 5 years down the road, your situation changes and animal has to go bye bye.

Now I'd never  just dump it and run, but  it's a bit impractical  and more animals would not get adopted if people followed this philosophy, to say never get an animal if you can't guarantee................... about it and its life and your ability to care for it.
