To be honest I am not sure what this has to do conservatives specifically.

From the article:

The showdown is a challenge to President Barack Obama and his energy secretary, Steven Chu, as they try to cajole—or compel—Americans to use water and energy more efficiently.

Water is quickly becoming a scarce resource and shouldn't be wasted.  If use isn't regulated, you can count on it becoming more scarce.

About 1% of ALL the water on Earth is fit and available for the consumption of humans and other organisms.  There are well over 6 billion people in the world and that number is rising every second.  Abuse of natural resources is not a topic that should be taken lightly.

I bathe...in extremely hot water, even in this heat(it helps with my back pain) than I shower...in cool water when its this fucking hot....and I'm considered a bleeding heart liberal by most here.

You are?  Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I was always under the impression that you were on the other side.

I see. So only conservatives are challenging Obama's policies?

Not paying attention much, are you.

I don't see conserving our resources as the central issue here...

If effective resource management requires conservation, then reducing consumption is reasonable and necessary. But this can be accomplished either by assessing increasingly severe penalties for excessive usage or by limiting usage absolutely. Then it's up to me (or you) whether to take a luxurious shower or, say, wash the car. A problem only arises when the government seeks to intrude itself into the private lives of its citizens by making those decisions for them. Too, it bears considering that staying in the shower for half an hour with a regular showerhead is just as wasteful as a scrub under a luxury model. So what's next, showerheads with government-mandated timers? I mean c'mon. Is there no line where government control over our private lives ends?

I don't disagree with conserving our resources, just with this way of doing it.

This.

Myself, I don't think that government should be mandating something like this.

I hate the low flow shower heads and have either replaced them or removed the restrictors in my bathrooms.

That wasn't really the point of the thread though.

It was why this administration keeps getting taken to task about these types of issues when there are more pressing concerns.

I have no problem with his policies being challenged.

What irritates me is when small issues are inflated to extremes by conservatives.

This was only a minor example but it has been going on constantly since he was elected.

Tell that to people in the Southwest.

Tell that to people in the Great Lakes states that are worried their water will be exported to the Southwest.

In that case, live it up and waste away!  Really, I'm pretty sure that the reason so many people WAY smarter than you are, are up in arms over this, because it is a very real concern.  I'm sorry if you either don't have the good sense or are unwilling to use it in order to see the unvarnished truth when it's laid out before you.  The World Health Organization "urges everyone to be part of efforts to conserve and protect the resource."

No shit! It's ridiculous how much the neocons and corporate America are fighting to maintain the status quo.  They do NOT want things to change, no matter how badly it impacts the environment or other people or other sentient beings, in general.  For them, it's all about the bottom line.

...and is extremely expensive to do so. For that matter, one could say with all of the oceans we have no shortage at all.

The water in question is potable water not including any that goes into the ground or need be or reclaimed which is of course...more accurate.

Rinse and rewash.

Sanity -> RE: The conservative outrage continues (7/25/2010 3:50:30 PM)

Its not expensive, its commonplace, and nature recycles water abundantly to begin with. Water is recycled in the United States at treatment plants as well. I live out of town and mine goes into a septic system and helps water my pasture, which is as cheap as recycling gets.

Let me ask you Willbeur, is it even worth the wear and tear on your fingers and your keyboard to make a post like this?

Ask yourself that question since it took you a lot longer to type your repeat of the claim that it has anything to do with conservatives when there is nothing to indicate that.
