I don't like it!

quote:

Hey, Wonder Woman -- Lynda Carter didn't need no stinkin' pants.

Or leggings.

Or whatever the DC Comics folks are calling the bottom half of the 69-year-old lady superhero's new urban-hip getup, designed by DC co-publisher and "X-Men" artist Jim Lee.

"What woman only wears one outfit for 70 years?" writer J. Michael Straczynski said on DC Comics' the Source blog. What woman doesn’t accessorize? And more to the point, as many women have lamented over the years … how does she fight in that thing?"

Well, perhaps she uses a stunt double, dear.

Because they can't leave well enough alone... I am disappointed in the lack of originality these days in the movie business.

Valyraen -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 5:00:31 PM)

Great, as if I didn't have enough problems already of thinking of new ways to use that magic lasso on her, they've gotta go and give her MORE clothes to be peeled out of...

From an objective standpoint, though... I like it. The old costume never really did anything for me.

I know, I know... it is all about you...lol

I grew up with Linda Carter as my heroine... she was hawt and she was tough and she was smart... I loved her! I especially liked her red boots!

Valyraen -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 5:29:57 PM)

I'm sure, if I tried real hard, I could whip up something about... yeah, y'know, I'm not even gonna try to justify it.

Honestly, though, I love the idea of Wonder Woman - a girl who's able to go toe-to-toe with the boys on their best days and hold her own. As a comic book character she's been an incredible role model for (I'm sure many) women and an inspiration for similar archetypes of female empowerment and independence. I just think it's high time that they updated her image - the character was conceived and the original outfit designed during the 40s, when comics were far less forward-thinking than they are now, and even a strong female archetype had to be sexed up in order to be taken at all. Honestly, let's look at her outfit - cleavage-baring top with bared shoulders, skin-tight bodysuit, and bottoms that can barely cover hers. I'm personally far more inclined, at the first glance, to take the new outfit seriously than I've ever been with her old duds.

juliaoceania -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 5:39:11 PM)

Part of the beauty of Wonder Woman is that she was "sexed up" and still kicked ass... one can be tough and sexy...

I wonder if it matters if men take her seriously, the entire point for me in watching her.... she took herself seriously, and woe to the man who failed to do so[;)]

DomImus -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 5:45:32 PM)

They can remake Wonder Woman a hundred times over... they will never remake Lynda Carter.

Aneirin -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 6:30:33 PM)

Does anyone think the things the old farts here grew up with and knowing is being sanitised and resold to a younger generation ?

Is it fair to our good memories, or is it we never owned those memories so we can accept our re education ?

It pissed me off after watching all three star wars movies the first time around that the subsequent  modern CGI made chapters were sanitised to show no killing beyond the illusion or suggestion that no one could have survived a lazer blast from an anti gravity tank. In fact, the naboo thing, everything looked more advanced compared to the original stuff, even though the naboo thing was supposed to be before the original star wars trilogy

I'm surprised Domi hasn't been around yet asking you to model a Wonder Woman outfit.  [:)]

juliaoceania -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 6:50:23 PM)

I think I could do that justice, actually.... (maybe this halloween)

Valyraen -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 7:19:52 PM)

I don't say this often enough...

Pics, or it didn't happen!

CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (6/30/2010 9:03:11 PM)

They keep taking my best childhood memories and destroying them one by one.  Most of the remakes suck...and my kid prefers to watch the old stuff with me.

I've been buying up old seasons...including seasons #1, #2, and #3 of the old Wonder Woman.  So they can crank out all that new shiite they want.

I'm not watching the new version of Battlestar Galactica either.  They not only neutered Starbuck...they turned him into a girl!  Aaaaahhh!

The new Wonder Woman looks hot...but...common.  Like a street gang girl.  She was supposed to be from an island whose culture was not like our own...she dressed to fit in when she came here.

I loved the corset, and the boots...and oh gawd, that rope...
<looks for drooling smiley>

Um, maybe I shouldn't admit to this, but I made a rope flogger with shiny satin covered ropes...and it's probably a throwback to my childhood memories.  I have a shiny satin rope for tying someone up too...I just love Joann Fabrics.

The new girl lost her rope!

Nope, that's NOT Wonder Woman...maybe her granddaughter...

I'm sorry, but making an Ant Man movie, would be like making a movie about Sam the Butcher, from the Brady Bunch; why bother?

Jim Lee has a bit of history of "revising" comics characters, not always to good effect. But, truth be told, WW has had a couple of minor changes in her costume throughout the years -- she began with a skirt thing, instead of the shorts, and in the early 1970s, the did away with the costume, and made her "mod".

LadyPact -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (7/1/2010 4:43:32 AM)

I don't care for the new costume.  I think they strayed too far from the original.  The actual top looks too much like it came out of Spiderman's closet.  The jacket could work.  The bottoms could have just been turned into leggings of some sort with the same design as the original with the stars along the hips.  Put the boots back on her.  (Hey, it's not Me who has to run in them.)

Level -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (7/1/2010 4:56:14 AM)

I doubt if the new look lasts; they changed Spidey into this once:

[image]http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/article/880/880252/SpiderManBlackCostume_1213042479.jpg[/image]

Lee changes stuff, tries to make a splash, a big event, and then dumps the character, and moves on.

laurell3 -> RE: They are Remaking Wonder Woman! (7/1/2010 6:52:42 AM)

This is like when they revamped life savers and put in the flavor that takes like soap...WHY? Why mess with a classic? Oh christ I sound really old....[:o]
