i was talking to a memeber of this site not too long ago who said he wished to do forced intoxication using poppers. i typically think of alcohol when forced intox is mentioned. he said that poppers are not harmful. anyway, when i asked what poppers are, he gave me no explaination of what they are, but instead decided to question if i was actually a domme or not...ya know, since a "real domme" would know what they are. so can somebody tell me what they are? I'm thinking pills, but i could be wrong.

Poppers is a slang term for various alkyl nitrites inhaled for recreational purposes.............Amyl nitrite and several other alkyl nitrites, which are present in products such as air freshener and video head cleaner, are often inhaled with the goal of enhancing sexual pleasure. 

Serious adverse effects can, however, occur following acute exposure and with heavy long-term use there is a potential for neurological damage.[9] Swallowing or aspirating the liquid rather than inhaling the vapours is particularly dangerous and can prove fatal.[

hmph. not dangerous my ass. i'm not into forced intox with anything, be it alcohol or mind altering drugs. so essentially, since i'm drug free....I'm not a real domme. i learn something new everyday.

Arguably to your gender, if memory serves, poppers began gaining strength in the male gay community in the 90's or so.

Apparently most promiscuous gay men in large US cities in the 70's had tried/used poppers, kinda like inhaled Viagra. It's featured in Armistead Maupin's 'Tales of the City' semi-autobio books and TV series about the gay culture in 70's San Francisco. A guy I know uses them so he could still quickly get erect for anonymous gay sex in parks, after half a lifetime of abusing tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
Amyl nitrate was originally used like nitroglycerin for heart attacks, so can can heart problems, too.

Actually they are amyl nitrite, not amyl nitrate, I did them with a lot of my gay male friends in college, it was fun. However....I am not advocating them now as a mture and responsible adult. [;)].

It isn't so much that you aren't a real Domme.  It's more that you are younger and aren't very aware of the history of what transpired within the leather scene before your time.

well now i know. i figured it dealt with a certain scene or something to that extent. but i knew there was no real correlation between poppers and my bdsm orientation.

Don't give a flying fruit bat, if it isn't prescribed and use according to the prescription or are basic meds from the apothecary, it has no place on my patch, and I include all cans, paint and Gawd knows what ever in that too..  Just call me the "Kill Joy Bear" but my patch stays drug free.

I'm with you Ironbear. I am drug free and don't scene with those who feel they need to get high to enjoy a scene.  Frankly, even if it were legal (such as alchol) I don't think "forced intoxication" sounds like a safe practice. But that's just me.

If you decide to engage this person, I would have them really research "poppers" as LadyC points out, they can be incredibly dangerous. I've seen a few kids with permanent brain damage that thought they weren't as well.

I don't really get the concept of "forced intoxication", but then again I don't play and consume even alcohol and I don't use drugs, so it might just be missed on me. That having been said, I'm not going to stand in my glass house and throw rocks at others that do. We all have our shit.

agreed. i'm not into the idea of forced intox by way of drugs or alcohol. i enjoy my wine every so often but i don't make a habit of getting wasted. well there was that one time on my 18th birthday, but like you said, we all got our shit.
