I jumped through because I damn well pleased. Did you ever read the end user agreement for alot of software ? The license agreement that you tick the box before it lets you hit OK. Let me explain that in something other than legalese. You own nothing. Even though you may have paid for Windows, you do not own it. You are forbidden from decompiling it to find out what is in it. You, whether you decompile it or not are forbidden from modifying it except in ways that it allows. You may not share it with others. You also may not copy it. You may not use it on more than one computer. You better hold on to the disk, even though we claim it's not the disk but what is on it, we have no responsibility to you or anyone to maintain it's usefeulness to you or anyone else. If this screws up your system, we are held harmless. You pay. If you think this is a joke (I guess the OP was kinda) get someone like That Dave Guy in here, anyone familiar with the Windows deal will tell you it is all true. I mean this is no joke at all. How many people actually read all that gobbletygook ? But that's what it says. Of course over here things are a bit different. My copy of Windows was "acquired" and the product key is not in question. This one can be cloned over a network and result in 4,000 PCs using the same key. It's the corporate edition. It is much faster to just load it once and clone it to other PCs which are identical. All perfectly legal I assure you. But when you get XP Home you have a few other things up the dupa. Now you must register within thirty days or it just stops working. Did your money stop working ? (don't even answer that) If you change too many peripherals you must reregister. You can't just stick your harddrive in another PC like you could with 98 and have it work. (true of all versions of XP or higher) Back in the 98 days I could change PCs like underwear. There was a trick to it, in control panel just remove all the system devices and they would be rebuilt on the next (long) reboot. Now XP just sits there with it's thumb up it's ass. AND IT COSTS MORE. Fukum. I got a master product key for Word, Works, Office, all that shit. Works on everything. What's more that software was legally bought and paid for and is no longer in use. Therefore what I have is considerd salvage by me. You wanna call it stealing you go right ahead. It's put well by Georse Thoroughgood - Now you funny too. I know the OP was intended to be somewhat of a joke, little bit, but this is not. The fact is, in many things if you read the end user license agreement along with all the limitations of use, as well as the "sellers" limited liability for any damages, you would likely not agree. Hell I got Linux for free. Three different versions as well as Lindows. I could tell Bill Gates to kiss my ass anytime I choose. But if it screws up the firmware on any one of my motherboards I might actually have to change a chip, which is very hard to do, or replace the motherboard. Guess what, the deal is the same if I use Linux in whatever form, which is open source, or Windows which I would pay through the nose for. Damn, I should've let that typo stand. I hit an extra "o" turning nose into noose. Freudian slip ? Anyone wearing one, saying what they really mean ? T
