I know it sounds like some 60 year old talking, but nothing good comes from saying no when you mean yes or yes when you mean no, and no one ever got anywhere worth going by trying to start out from where they are not. Ah . . . my first geriatric rant!
If this guy isn't into what you're bringing to the relationship now, it is highly unlikely that it is going to get better. Perhaps give yourselves some time to get over the initial shock and to get some clarity, but if this guy can't get into being loved, obeyed, entertained, allowed to set rules and punish infractions or whatever it is that winds your clock, you need to deal with it.
