Soccer and Nascar didn not exist among the men folk where I grew up in New Jersey.  Never acquired a taste for them either.  That being said, you're post inspired me to check with my bookie.  Sure enough......he's got World Cup action.  I locked in to Slovenia in a "pick em" over Algeria.

your bookie?

or do you mean wall street?

It meets the requirement:  it has a ball.

Where men with hot legs run around and chase a ball while the town folks riot and burn the city down.

Dreadful.   We never do that here.

We are all set around here, even if I am pretty sure Germany has not a chance in hell this go-round. My sons did go all out in preparation anyway. Flags, shirts, face paint, and innumerable other paraphernalia abound.

Of course I am, and who cares how many countries play it, its a better game, more fun to watch and WAY more fun to play!!

This world cup is coming too soon, it could push us into one of those double dip recessions; if everyone insists on being ill at the same time.

its not "a sport" we're on the global internet and as far as the world is concerned football (not soccer) is THE sport. its the game that english and german soldiers on a day of truce xmas 1915 decided to play each other at, its the sport that european countries live out our international tensions with now rather that going to war, its the one unifying thing that any two guys from most of ther world outside of north america when they meet can strike up a nice little chat about. its the worlds unifying factor, this is literally indisputable, get on board or get to fuck. it starts on june 11th, its open to everyone, its not elitist, its the one game that anywhere in the world kids can play whether they are poor kids in the ghetto or rich kids with some fields, all you need is a couple of markers for a goalpost and a ball. football is the most universal and egalitarian thing the world has ever created, if you aren't part of it fair enough but being sniffy about our thing just makes you a dickhead.

EVERTON FOREVER.

yes thats exactly it. really though you come from the wire, and there is the warrington song that places love 2nd to rugby league in that so where do you think the world cup figures in that for blokes from the cities?

but its elitist...100 years of amateurism saw to that (amateurism in england meaning that a certain section of people cannot play it... ) you only have to google pictures of the south african squads for each sport to see to that. what game does the poor black majority play? association rules is the one game anyone anywere can start a game of, regardless of access to pitches, equipment etc.

Who the fuck cares if its elitist...ITS THE BETTER GAME!! I have played both and Rugby is by far and away the more fun...no contest....soccer/football is boring to watch and just as dull to play...no tackling=no fun

People who think soccer is boring just dont get what is going on.

I could provide hints at this stage, but really whats the point? Unless its in your blood you likely wont get it even when explained in great detail.

Here it's a safe game for children to play. My son was goalie from age eight onwards excepting one year. Even when he took a year off from playing he was still the best goalie when he went back. He burned out when they decided he was starting goalie for jv and back up goalie for varsity and needed to attend six games a week.
