Oh crap, thanks for the reminder. I was told that I'm going to be starting an herb garden too. I have a SERIOUS black thumb & can't grown a damn thing 'cept fur babies![>:]

I actually think herbs are easier to grow than tomatoes. I struggle with tomatoes. They always get blossom end rot for some annoying reason.

Reading what everyone has written here almost makes me wish to see spring. I do miss getting my hands dirty in soil that is just beginning to warm. I do miss spending the winter planning for the gardens that will be planted in spring. We don't go north to Montana until late May/early June. We leave there in late Sept. Growing anything from seeds has become impossible with the grasshoppers that appear by the end of June. We estimated 40-50 per square yard last year. They eat everything in sight, even those plants they supposedly don't like. It hurts to watch the grass for the new lawn sprouting in the morning only to be eaten down to the bare ground by evening.

Wow. We have lots of grasshoppers and crickets, but the grass still grows faster. I start plants under clear 2-liter bottles bured a few inches into the soil. They act as mini-greenhouses---and keep out the insects.

I'm thinking of doing Parsely, Basil Rosemary and Thyme. Also same or different pots ?

Just remember that, plants that are in pots outdoors need watered A LOT more than plants in the ground.... from a woman that learned that the hard way...
