Musicmystery -> Spring (4/8/2010 4:25:14 PM)

This morning, my apricots were in full bloom, the bumblebees already at work. Even some of the cuttings from pruning have blossomed.

Robins in the black walnuts are overseeing the process. Spring is here.

And beautifully.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 4:30:18 PM)

I laid on my back in a lounge chair on the deck today and watched a squirrel work on a nest for over an hour.  I swear spring invigorates the souls of all things living, me included.

You are welcome to send any extra crates of apricots to me.  I would love to be able to make apricot-pinapple jam again.  [:)]

Musicmystery -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 4:46:28 PM)

Oooh, that reminds me....I want to try to grow pineapple (indoors).

Apparently I am just going to have to make a trip to NY, steal your fruit, and break into your house to make jam.

Argh!  I am so jealous.  I cannot grow anything without killing it.

Musicmystery -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 6:51:58 PM)

Start with the kiwi. That just isn't growing--I should expand my grapes instead.

DomMeinCT -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 6:55:19 PM)

My big flock of juncos has left to go north, and the goldfinch males are now all bright yellow.

Musicmystery -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 7:34:23 PM)

I have 2000 spruce trees, and outside is manic with bird calls, each walk precipitating a flurry of flight with every step.

Definitely gonna have to net the strawberry patches!

I should steal your kiwi?

That is so strange.

And you are okay with the rest?

Musicmystery -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 7:51:42 PM)

Oh, and take all the rabbits you can carry.

Please.

Aylee -> RE: Spring (4/8/2010 9:49:46 PM)

[sm=writing.gif]  1.  Get to NY.

2.  Snag apricots
3.  Kill the kiwi
4.  Look for bunny-foo-foo
5.  Break into house
6.  Check inside for pinapples
7.  If no pinapples, drive to store to buy some
8.  Re-break into house.
9  Run back to the store for sugar and pectin.  Idiot house owner doesn't stock it.
10.  Re-re-break into house.
11.  Chop
12.  Mix
13.  Run to car for the jars, re-re-re-break into house and steralize them.
14.  Cook
15.  Fill jars
16.  Boil
17.  Wait for pop
18.  Any that did not pop, place in freezer
19.  Round up Bunny-Foo-Foo
20.  Place dozen jam jars in car with stupid rabbit
21.  Drop rabbit off
22.  Stop at ER for a rabis shot
23.  Drive home.

Ya know. . . I am tired just writing that.  And I enjoy making jam.

This is the flaw in your plan. It's redundant, I'm afraid.

Your plan will also never succeed without accounting for stopping to feed two cats and a husky.

And none of that pet treat crap. They know you've got sugary stuff.

Pick me up on your way and I'll give you a hand.  I think I know where the pineapple is [;)]

KMsAngel -> RE: Spring (4/9/2010 3:44:32 AM)

tomatoes, zucchini and cucumers ripped out. tap pumpkins occasionally to see if still growing. contemplate cold sowing winter lettuce. shiver. wrap up in flannel and warm fuzzy socks. talk to daughter who is dehydrating banana from tree in back yard. ask her to send some down with pineapples. peek at lemon tree. still green, another few months.....

retreat to room and open window to let in cold air, wrap up in fuzzy jumper and enjoy the coolness.

go to bed early because it gets dark earlier.

DesFIP -> RE: Spring (4/9/2010 5:23:07 AM)

Peach trees in bloom around here. Worrisome because our last frost date is May 15. So way early blossoms can easily be hit by frost, and then there goes the crop.

sirsholly -> RE: Spring (4/9/2010 5:40:27 AM)

i was thinking along the same lines as Celeste. Our pear tree has never looked more glorious, but it is really early and the frost might be an issue.

pahunkboy -> RE: Spring (4/9/2010 5:58:17 AM)

Here at my house- a crazy mad man went wilding on the lilac bush when I moved in. I mean it was brutal.

I am glad I did so- cause now 2 years later- the bush is decent size.   Overgrown landscape can cause problems- well for those on a city lot.

MM,   I am HUGE on spruces.    For the space I have- it is a botanical garden- chalked with spruces and roses.    I can not wait to the next place!!!!!

Jeffff -> RE: Spring (4/9/2010 7:12:29 AM)

I love my home!
