You are making a pretty good case against why he shouldn't be voting on matters of national importance, much less still serving in congress.

Just sayin, perhaps we should look at a few other of those that voted for this thing that showing signs of Alzheimer's.[8|]

Oh, you get no argument there. I don't know how in the world some of these fossils get re-elected. Do they coast through their entire campaign without having to give a single speech? Nobody in their district notices how their thought process has deteriorated? That's the really scary thing about this, IMO. Not that the federal government is going to tattoo our foreheads and put us in camps, but that so many of our elected representatives haveĀ  serious questions about their competence.

By the way... as an aside, we were involved in a somewhat complex debate the other day about several issues at once. I see that you replied to me, but I wasn't on the Politics forum until today. I don't want to seem as though I'm ducking away from that, but the thread seems to have died. If you'd like me to resurrect the thread, I'll be happy to pick it up again; but regardless, I want to make one thing clear - no, I don't see you as the enemy. I see you as a good man who thinks very differently about some things, and is frankly wrong aboutĀ  some of them - but still a good man. I'll either pick the thread up or let it drop, as you wish, but if we're letting it drop I don't want to walk away from it without at least correcting that apparent misimpression.

No worries Panda. I enjoy our discussions and know that you don't harbor ill will towards me or believe me to be the enemy. I am also willing to admit that there are things that I am wrong about.

I am sure there are quite a few of the new threads that we can joust in, so it isn't necessary to resurrect it unless there was something that you really needed or wanted to say in it.

I wish you well,
Thadius

...and, perhaps, while we're witch hunting to find medical reasons to dismiss those we disagree with, we can scan those who voted against adequate health care for 30plus million american citizens for Antisocial Personality Disorder, we can scan the Tea Baggers for paranoid schitzophrenia and we can scan Brain for a....er...brain.
Isn't that one of the things we are trying to address with Health Care reform.....too many unnecessary tests....tea baggers for paranoia and Brain for a...er...Brain.
Good god man think of the waste!

"I believe there are nanny states in existance, why do people not simply go there. England, Canada, France and other places seem nice in the brochures"

I guess they could and probably should. The people who set out to discover and conquer new lands probably saw it coming. It was a damn shame when they took the guns in Austrailia, they have crocs there. But they too could rebel (up until the guns were gone) against UK rule. The fact is that through their actions they have declared themselves an enemy. In fact in US law embodied in the revisions to the Trading With The Enemy Act it is clearly stated. All we have on land is their treasure and all we have at sea is their bounty. It's not hard to look it up.

A Russian leader before the fall uf the USSR stated that Americans will accept socialism with open arms, without a shot being fired. Something like that. He was right, but by what method did it happen ? I believe it was a plan, well thought out and well executed, and is worldwide actually. This country was intended to be the exception, and it was for a time to some extent.

However there is a class of people in this world who are addicted to power, and an addict is insatiable. Originally the Constitution provided sort of a wall which should serve to keep the megalomaniacs at bay, but they are persistent and we have not been. The have been chipping away at the true nature and intent of this land for a long time now, actually since around the time of the civil war. If people would have been diligent, things would be different. There would be no healthcare debate, you either have the money or not. Market forces would apply. However there is what's known as insurance, which at the optimum spreads the risk among many in case of a problem. A fine idea in it's true form, but like government, corrupt people corrupt the whole idea.

Any social system is vulnerable to abuse, just like the strongest Man in the world could be strangled while he sleeps. We started with a republic, people don't even call it that anymore, they call it a democracy. But the elections are tightly controlled, just like in the countries occupied by "them".

In a way insurance is socialism. Perhaps voluntary and limited socialism, but if it walks like a duck .......

I've said it before, if I were to insure you against, let's say death. It would be in my best interest to do all I can to keep you alive, and shouldn't that be my right ? What if I don't want to insure Evil Knevil ? Or if I did I insist he stopped his showman antics because they are too dangerous.

In that way, any time you share reponsibility you give up rights. The problem comes when the profiteers start operating the system.

In closing I will state that I think this thread was not named correctly. Scary implies that something bad will happen, but I assert that it already has for the most part, so what is so scary about what is real now ?
