One would have to define my side. I want the government out of our lives, to do only what they are supposed to do. We are far from that and it probably will never happen. Bickering "across the aisle" means nothing to me. My side is to have the government mind it's own business, and in that yes, I want my side to win. I also realize that not everyone wants the same thing. Some want a nanny government, and to be taken care of even though it is actually at their own expense. T

This is a larger threat to America than the red menace ever was, since people generally think of it as socialism and are unaware of the end game. In reality though, these people intend to rewrite the constitution prohibiting free speech that even remotely offends any one group, they intend to eventually take all our guns just like they have in Australia and England, and they intend to erase our borders allowing anyone in the world to fly in on a plane and stay forever. These are true radicals just as radical as Castro and Chavez. It's a very scary time for America since we are at the tipping point. However, the last election replacing Kennedy is a good sign. The nice thing about conspiracies is that they're always hugely powerful, and as a result excuse you from having to take any responsibility at all for anything in your life. If you don't like your life, it's nothing to do with any shitty choices you've made or lack of backbone or balls you might have displayed, it's all the NWO/ZOG/Illuminati/other's fault...

Mostly casual at this point, I am researching commonalities when the time presents itself.. While I'm certainly not advocating a course that leads to actual war I am drawing my concerns from rhetoric that I hear in day to day conversations and within various mediums of communication. And personally I myself am left to ponder an ocassion where men, clad in rags, their feet black and bloodied by frostbite trained, suffered and prepared to repell the forces of tyranny that subjugate man under the mantle of father knows best and we must all serve fathers aims. ( the terminoligy of father in this instance to mean the governing forces) I am actually concerned if all the actions of past and present administrations hasn't brought us to a point of vulnerability as a nation. I think many are aware I travel a great deal in my labors and I interact closely with both ends of the econimic spectrum, at that I believe the illusion of a middle class seems speculative at best, so I'll leave it at a reference to the ends. But in listening to the rhetoric of common folk from each social economic group that I encounter over the course of a day I am rather concerned over the divide, and this divide seems to be spawned by the talking points of those that would be the "leaders". So is this divide jusified and we as Americans have reached a turning point in our history where the issues that seperate us can not be bridged or are we in need of a leadership that recalls and can define what it is that America was contrived to be with regards to the concepts of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Both parties have made this an us against them process and the concept of a united we stand mentaility, where we actually work together to get over, past and rid yourself of difference seems more dramatic than ever. While I drew similar contrast to that of a pre civil war timeframe, we have certainly at different times in our nations history met similar challanges, though at the present it seems to me that the flames of hate and discontent are rather defined along lines that may not find common ground. quote: ORIGINAL: thompsonx I hope all of you realize that the U.S. Civil War was a conflict the began with idealistic rhetoric over fundamental differences. While health care reform is needed, the last bill actually reformed very little in a positive way for the majority of the folks. If a ten year old said that it would be scary. Congressman Dingell's office should admit the error and issue a retraction. Perhaps it's time for him to move to Florida if he's getting that bad.

I don't know how in the world some of these fossils get re-elected. Do they coast through their entire campaign without having to give a single speech? Nobody in their district notices how their thought process has deteriorated? That's the really scary thing about this, IMO. Not that the federal government is going to tattoo our foreheads and put us in camps, but that so many of our elected representatives have serious questions about their competence. By the way... as an aside, we were involved in a somewhat complex debate the other day about several issues at once. I see that you replied to me, but I wasn't on the Politics forum until today. I don't want to seem as though I'm ducking away from that, but the thread seems to have died. If you'd like me to resurrect the thread, I'll be happy to pick it up again; but regardless, I want to make one thing clear - no, I don't see you as the enemy. I see you as a good man who thinks very differently about some things, and is frankly wrong about some of them - but still a good man. I'll either pick the thread up or let it drop, as you wish, but if we're letting it drop I don't want to walk away from it without at least correcting that apparent misimpression.

Are you seriously suggesting this bill is going to provide adequate health care for 30 million Americans? This bill while doing a few very worthwhile things is about insurance, it didn't do anything for increasing the number of doctors or the quality of them. It can even be argued that with announcements by Walgreens, the Mayo clinic, and a few others that they are no longer going to accept medicare or medicaid patients, that this bill made getting adequate health care more difficult. Oh and don't worry there are quite a few Repubs in my state that will be feeling the wrath of the voting populace.

I'll admit I found it troubling too, until I saw who it was and remembered this is a guy who was one of the subjects of "Jurassic Park." I remember my grandmothers when they were his age, and I wouldn't have put any credence in anything either of them said beyond "It's raining today." He may be on my "side" ideologically, but in my opinion it's time for him to move on.
