LadyPact -> The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 5:27:36 PM)

One of the things that I attribute to My success in being a good top is the fact that I have a fantastic imagination.  All that I need to create the spark that gets My mind going into a full blaze of topping fire are such little things.  It can come from many sources.  I can be out shopping and see an item out of the corner of My eye that would make a wonderful play tool.  I can hear other folks playing and My mind will race with thoughts and ideas.  I can read a thread here and suddenly a vision of a new scene will enter My brain.  Maybe a different use for that patio outside or gee, I never noticed that particular bench could be used in such a way.

For Me, I think it's this spark of imagination that keeps things exciting and new.  It's why I don't get bored.  Even when I have great scenes, I don't attempt to duplicate them.  I like that element of surprise.  I like running with whatever concept has hit Me at the moment.  Maybe a new idea or one that I've never tried before.  That, combined with other factors, is what lights Me up inside when I top.

How important do you feel imagination is in your play?

windchymes -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 5:31:44 PM)

Well, one big turn-on for me has always been a man/Dom with a real creative and spontaneous imagination.  [:)]  It's very important to me, and I love the surprise and the uniqueness of doing something new, especially if it's something I never thought of myself.

MsLadySue -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 5:34:25 PM)

I agree 100% that imagination is very important. For me, I can be very imaginative but if the bottom isn't making any sound (or the right sounds) I lose interest quickly. I need the sounds to keep my imagination flowing.

lovingpet -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 5:39:37 PM)

Imagination is critical in all aspects of my life and this is no different. I don't want the same old thing in any part of my life over and over again. Even things that I love to do need shaking up sometimes and a new spin on an old theme. My partner and I are both very creative people and we can really create a lot of unique ideas together. He has been especially good about introducing me to new types of play slowly. I would say we have done a little something new along with an old favorite just about every time we have had a chance to play. It may not always be like that, but I have seen him take some simplistic idea and expand it, twist it, and suddenly it is something entirely different. We like to make a lot of our own fun and we seem to find pervertibles most anywhere. Success is part steady pace and part phenomenal growth and exploration. I like to think we do well at having the best of both.

I think creativity is a wonderful aspect to the things I do... but it is only as good as my ability to apply my creativity within play. Ideas, Imagination, Fantasy, Creativity are nothing until one is able to apply it into a pleasurable experience.

Lockit -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 6:07:44 PM)

Good post Lady Pact!

Although I don't get as creative in so many ways as some of you all... lol... I am creative and love... feed off of the element of surprise!

My daughter has even caught on to how I see things and when I am shopping with her, she will point something out. She wanted to buy my first crop! I love looking at home or anywhere at things, with a special eye! The kids bought me one of those granny grabber things for picking things up and putting in light bulbs. OMG you should have seen me trying to see what it would do and if it would be safe... if for nothing else, but a mind fuck moment! What the hell is she going to do with that?!

A back scratcher is just simply wicked... a stick thingy that held a large orchid up... nice... lol So yes... I love using my imagination and I love shopping with eyes wide open! My daughter will smile when she sees me go look at something and examine it. You should have seen me at walmart with my son... bunch of ladies down the way a bit... smacking my hand with spatchula's and wooden spoons and saying... no this isn't quite what I'm looking for! hehe Son just smiled and did my fetching of higher items and the ladies glanced over, smiled and didn't say a word.

Imagination is a must! And sometimes I think just thinking with that bit of evil while creating is almost as much fun as doing it! I sure laugh a lot when I do it! But I also love that in the moment inspiration! When they look at you and you know.... you just have to! lol

DesFIP -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 6:08:41 PM)

On the other hand, imagination only gets you so far. You still have to have knowledge of how to do things right. He's an engineer. We do bondage and he's thinking about suspension. I know that he'll research it fully and discover how to do this safely. Which doesn't mean a bolt in a 2 x 4.

i have no imagination so i just hit harder

Aileen1968 -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 6:24:20 PM)

We had this conversation just the other week. We realized that we've physically been together over 200 times in the past year and have yet to repeat a single thing. One of the biggest appeals for us is the endless choices we have in terms of what we want to explore on any given day. It could be medical, bondage, rape, teacher, officer, sadist, caveman, unibomber, etc. or any combo of those at any moment. And that's not even mentioning what's in the toy box. I also told him how great it is that I have someone and he has someone that we can say our deepest darkest fantasy to and not only will we not get disgusted by it, but we'll probably want to try it. What a lovely kind of relationship that is to have...

My play inspires me, my inspiration creates the words I write. What I write shapes my play. There's a circularity to it all.
At those times when I write at my best I am in kind of automatic reverie. At other times I am can be in an inner visualisation which detaches me from the physical world. I have always been like this and I guess that the role of physical pain for me is pleasureavle simply because it brings me to my senses.

AcademyForSlaves -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 8:36:52 PM)

Hi.

Imagination is my best tool. I've heard of subs that like to list out a script fantasy and I'm noticing it's because the top didn't know how to rule the show. If the top keeps the sub on their toes and always has a new trick or surprise up their sleeve then the sub is quick to comply and follows the top's lead. I like to keep control over the sub.

Hope this helps.

MsMillgrove -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/8/2010 9:15:49 PM)

I like to hear subs' fantasies because it gives me ideas of what specific triggers will excite them. But i never recreate their fantasies. i use those triggers in ways that suit me. Our play becomes something unique to us both, that we wouldn't or couldn't enjoy with another. most standard bdsm toys don't turn me on, I am not sure why this, perhaps my tendency to clumsiness or my disinterest in "tools" in general. My sadism is mental rather than physical.

Play for me tends to be joyous, silly and most of all unpredictable. I love to spring something out of the blue. (it's not "out of the blue" for me as I have planned and rehearsed) From there I am open to taking many different directions based on the sub's responses. The script is only beginning, middle, end.. in between--I prefer spontaneity. I'm flexible too in changing the script if a better conclusion presents itself. What I enjoy is the planning and preparation, going over and over in my mind--looking for details, props, locations.. like making a movie in my mind. Final result--doesn't matter too much if it matches the original screenplay--it's that "thinking about it" phase that it the most pleasurable to me.

Some kinksters wish to have "behind closed doors" relationships. I understand and respect their choice, but for me.. I love to be outdoors especially. I like to do things that can't be noticed and don't involve the public in any way, yet are done right in front of them. Public parks are my favorite! (handy to have a dog and to dress and look vanilla.)

asiandoll27 -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/9/2010 12:57:21 AM)

I think imagination is very important in keeping things such that they are never routine and that suprise and the unexpected can make for so much more than just the normal ever could. Imagination often leads to innovation - and always new experiences.

The Dollar Store rocks! I made a flogger out of a Dollar Store foam bathmat, for a friend's 40th b-day. His Mistress calls it the "Nerf flogger", lol!

allthatjaz -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/9/2010 2:05:58 AM)

Its like two children. One sits in a room full of toys and complains that he's bored and the other sits in an virtually empty room but occupies himself for hours with some empty boxes!

Imagination plays a huge part in what we are about.
Whilst I agree with what Desfip has said about the engineering, I also wonder at how many boring bondage acts I have watched and taken part in with an expert ropee who's engineering skills are second to none but his imagination is zero. The two combined is awesome but unfortunately we don't see a lot of that.

johndafreak -> RE: The Spark of Imagination (1/9/2010 2:18:07 AM)

How many licks does it take to get to the center?
The word my never know.
