I consider myself still new to the scene.  I have a public job and fear repracussions if I am seen attending a munch.  What should I do?

AquaticSub -> RE: Newbie (1/6/2010 9:46:30 PM)

Anyone attending a munch will be there for the same reason. Anyone seeing you at a munch will just assume that you are out with friends. Because they take place public places without buying the place out, everyone has to confirm to the usual dress code of the place. If asked, you just say you went out and met up with your book club or something, or just that it is a social group and leave it at that.

Depending upon how many different groups you have within a reasonable driving distance, you might consider attending a munch in a neighboring metro area if you think being found participating at one in your own metro area to be detrimental.

Your profile lists you as being in Kentucky. If you're close to the border of a neighboring state, you might want to see what's available, munch wise, in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, etc.

Perhaps you need some sit-down discussions with the fella in the mirror?

I mean, really, at munches you'll meet people who have something in common with you.

Are you ashamed of who you are or what you do or need?

These "repercussions" - are your specific needs illegal where you live?

You do know the lifestyle doesn't require you to be a public exhibitionist, right?

Failing that, perhaps a wall-flowered life of denial is more your thing?

Ohh, and welcome to the (very public) Forums... :-)

Focus.

LadyPact -> RE: Newbie (1/7/2010 4:22:49 AM)

Wouldn't anybody who could cause issues with your job be at the munch for the same exact reason as you?  Otherwise, they wouldn't have any idea of why you were sitting at a restaurant with a group of folks.

Munches are very "vanilla looking" so i'm positive that won't be an issue.

lally2 -> RE: Newbie (1/7/2010 4:39:02 AM)

i did go to a munch once where the 'mascott' was a bear dressed in leather bondage! - he/she was sitting in full view on the table.

there was another munch where one of the guys saw nothing wrong in pushing his sub over a table and spanking her (this in a family pub environment)

on the whole though, people prefer to be low key. if youre nervous just ask them. honestly, theyre regular people like you and theyll understand youre first time nerves.

Welcome...
It is always hard when one fears job loss for lifestyle..
The thing is anyone from your work at a munch is also like minded..??
The munchs I have attended look like any other group of folks getting
together..
Perhaps you coudl e mail someone in your area and query as to WHAT       the munchs "look" like there etc??
Ppl do not show up with men on all fours on a leash and femdom porn outfits.

Thanks to everyone for their help.  I think I will check out some out of town munches and se what happens.  I think this will be the only way I can meet someone.  I get to talk to a lot of people here but nothing materializes.
Once agan, thanks for the tips.

~fr~

I had the same concerns for the same reason, and it turned out to be a worry over nothing. We're in the middle of a pub with nilla folk. Yeah I'm chatting with my munch friends, but then again I also go chat with the nilla folk...it's no big deal [:D]

chill, babydoll. People are not there to out each other.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Newbie (1/9/2010 2:54:34 AM)

It is just like going to a PAgan Night Out with a bunch of pagan friends. We dress normally, (well, one of the shamans will wear his headdress to provoke laughter) invade a pub and stay there for a few hours, drinking, eating, networking...

I would love to find munches in my area but the Yahoo group is closed down (bummer). If I want to attend an event I better have just cause for my mother (she is my financial rep for the SSI funds). Maybe if I save my funds (after the dental work), I can go to Thunder in the Mountains.

Simple- you smile, extend a hand, and say, "Why Reverend! How good to see you here!"

The perfect phrase is "mutually assured embarrassment."

That was awesome! Thanks for the giggle!

Much truth is said in jest and that about sums it up!
Sometimes we need to realize that there is no shame in being true to ourselves, and at some point its time to grow up into who we are.
Others have said that whoever you meet there is there for the same reasons you are...i agree, and  how nice to find friends who understand.
