I am one of those firefox users who does not have
the options box appear in email here. No choice
of fonts and/or colors, etc.

So after some emails I prefer to use an off site email
so I can mark quotes and enjoy the flexibility of the
other options. Such as sending links as links.

I have found that some others prefer to use off site
email for the other the reasons already mentioned,
work computers, etc.

With all the free email sites to choose from, why not?

Anytime someone asks to be contacted off CM it's usually a big red flag that they're a scammer of some kind that is just trying to get as many email addy's as they can to sell to someone. While I have my YiM username on my profile for people to contact me on, I only use that name for chatting with people from this site and a couple of others and I would NEVER contact anyone before I did so through the CMail feature for at least a half dozen messages or so to establish that they are a real human and actually is interested in me.
