If you have open communication and are well matched, punishment shouldn't be necessary. Figuring out what went wrong and finding a way to solve it so it doesn't happen again should be the goal, not the top getting to indulge his sadism without regard for how the bottom feels. Lets say you order her to cook a complicated chicken dish and she's barely able to boil water. No matter how badly she's beaten, she still doesn't have the skill to do this level of cooking. The solution here is to teach her better cooking skills. Through cookbooks, through classes, through hands on doing it step at a time as you explain each step and repeat them as many times as necessary until she gets it. Beating her badly will not magically give her the needed skills, it will however give her an aversion to doing anything in the kitchen when she knows you're setting her up to fail.

I know for me, it helps. It adjusts my headspace, and stops me from beating my self up over an issue again and again... it only works if it's physical. but no yelling. I don't like it, and it's not productive.

Master and i talked in the very beginning of Our relationship and He decided that since He enjoys spanking, beating, flogging, etc, and i enjoy receiving it, that He would just do that whenever He felt like it. Not because of a punishment.

Ideally, true punishment won't ever be required. And it wouldn't be physical (or "fun") if it were.. it would have to be mental, I believe, to really make an impression. Now "funishment".. that's something many of us look forward to.
