For me, being sensitive is simply a reaction that I feel, which is closely connected to being aware. I can cry, display empathy, sympathy, anger, bewilderment or any number of a wide range of emotional reactions, depending upon the situation. I've spent a lot of time learning to balance the intensity of my reactions, and in general like to maintain a balanced equilibrium. I have deep respect for others who have mastered themselves enough to react with not only the appropriate reaction to the given stimuli, but to have a measure of control over the intensity of it as well. It's easy to see who has not worked on themselves in these areas by the way they respond to events/others they come into contact with. Folks who haven't healed or come to terms with the pain from their past will often over-react or react inappropriately when faced with normal situations in daily life. Being sensitive in this world is often difficult when one is constantly forced to see all the struggles, pain and difficulties in it. Everywhere we look, it seems that our senses are being BLASTED and over-stimulated by the wars, poverty, drugs, anger, lies, deceit and so on. It's been very tempting to "shut down" , crawl inside a hole and die..But so far, I have not.......
