naughtysubK -> slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/28/2009 4:12:13 PM)

I just saw somethng like the following posted on a group site.

W/we would appreciate it if Y/you A/all could pass this information on to A/any who Y/you think may be interested.  Thank Y/ou A/all.  W/we hope to see Y/you soon

seriously?

it actually hurts my eyes to try to read this.   if my Dominant saw me typing like this,  he would be mad at me for wasting time with the slashies,   time I am sure he thinks would be better used giving him a blowjob

So yOu wouldn't like mY new proposal that sWitches should capitalize the second letter in order to land somewhere between Doms and subs? [;)]

NYLass -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/28/2009 4:15:49 PM)

Now, if it was written as "Y/yall woudja pass this here shit along....."  might just be a R/redneck.

I know slash speak is a pet peeve of a lot of people, but with less than 50 posts in the last five years, is it really effecting you that much?

naughtysubK -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/28/2009 5:46:48 PM)

I was unaware that you had to have a certain number of posts before your opinion was valid.  I won't bother the collar me community with my posts any more then.   Sorry I am not more prolific in my writng

Don't be an ass.

If that's all it's gonna take for you to get offended and huff off, you're in for a lot of stomping.

I tend to pass on slashy speak when I see it. I just can't be bothered to read whatever it is the person is saying even if it may be important.

It's just too hard to read. It's like looking at a foreign language to me that I can't decipher.

You want to know what my pet peeve is?

People who come to message boards and do nothing but complain about others.

If it hurts your eyes to read such writing then for all that's fucking good and holy...don't read the fucking posts anymore.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/28/2009 7:49:26 PM)

In general, I tend to worry more about the -message-, and the general capacity to communicate aside from the decorative trappings (what some here are calling 'slashy-speak'). I'd be the last one to complain about specific protocols in speech, as I have my own peculiarities in address and language that I expect when I am being addressed (and sometimes when those who serve me are addressing others).

I think that it's a lot more satisfying to find conversations that interest me and participate in those than complain. It helped when I started thinking of slashy-speak as a form of calligraphy -- yeah, it is occasionally a little harder to read, but some folks find it quite beautiful, and it's still the same language underneath.

I thought I was pretty clear that I read this elsewhere.   Perhaps I did not make that clear enough.  But by all means pile on.   It's quite obvious that the clique of 5000 + post people don't need anyone new here.

subk,

Settle down and don't carry your feeling on your sleeve, all posts of well intentioned subjects are here for us all If I walked away from any negative comment thrown my way, I would have less posts then you.

Sunshine, I'm disappointed in you. Aren't you going to post ALL THE LINKS for the OP's convenience?

DesFIP -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/29/2009 6:55:02 AM)

Subk, consider this your trial by fire. I do think people were pretty grumpy this morning, and you got to be what they took that out on. Don't worry, some days it just goes like that. Or have you never been in a bad mood?

Put them on block if the constant slashy speak annoys you. That's what the button is there for. And yeah, I discount people who deliberately make their postings difficult to read. That includes giant or tiny font or really light colors.

However they don't always know that this isn't required. If they've just come out of some of those chat rooms with ridiculous protocols they may assume they have to do that here. Next time ask the person if they've been ordered to talk like that, and if they haven't, suggest they don't.

VampiresLair -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/29/2009 6:59:24 AM)

The problem is, OP, that you come on and announce that you hate slash speak and want... what exactly?

This is the same epiphany that other people have had over and over, its a dead horse beaten almost as often as the "sub v slave" thing, or the announcements of someone who is on here who declares themselves a sub looking for someone to turn them into a slave. Rather than getting all pissy when you reinvent the wheel and you have no new buyers, why not check and see how many times your pet peeve has peeved others already.

It isnt that your input is invalid, it just isnt anything we havent already seen many many times.

tsatske -> RE: slashy speak.....a pet peeve (9/29/2009 7:00:33 AM)

I think the slash writers need a grammer brush up. Who is a pronoun, hence, clearly, it should have been W/who. maybe even W/whom.
Would it really drive the slashy speach batty if you started posting y/You w/We, ect, instead of the other way around?
