ORIGINAL: Venatrix Don't let the gratuitous nastiness drive you away - it's happened to all of us. Hasn't happened to me. Then again I'm so cute and fluffy that the peoples just wubbs me! LOL[:)] As far as slashy speak goes, the more I go along in life, the less things like this really matter to me. I look at it as a person's right to express themselves as they please. I don't use it, but my partner usually does even when writing to me. I could care less. I am more interested in WHAT he has to say and WHO he is than HOW he expresses it. The one thing that it does tend to say to me is that the disparity of power/contol in the relationship tends to be of extreme importance to many who use this particular convention. It is not that it is used as a means of control in and of itself or as a way to resign control, but rather it shows a certain respect of each position individually and the relationship as a whole. I doubt I will ever get into either lowercasing my pronouns and uppercasing his or slashy speak myself. I just see my value equivalent to his regardless of where the seat of power is or my position in relation to it. I accept what he is trying to express and he accepts what I am trying to express, so it isn't a factor, nor does it cause friction between us. Similarly, it is not an issue for me with others on the message boards or who email me either. lovingpet
