In general, I tend to worry more about the -message-, and the general capacity to communicate aside from the decorative trappings (what some here are calling 'slashy-speak'). I'd be the last one to complain about specific protocols in speech, as I have my own peculiarities in address and language that I expect when I am being addressed (and sometimes when those who serve me are addressing others). I think that it's a lot more satisfying to find conversations that interest me and participate in those than complain. It helped when I started thinking of slashy-speak as a form of calligraphy -- yeah, it is occasionally a little harder to read, but some folks find it quite beautiful, and it's still the same language underneath.
