I even get turned on by the smell of a book store or library. Can get lost in either one for hours and not realize how much time has gone by. I adore books.

Hmmm.....yes!! I am indeed a book slut. The more, the merrier. [:D]

LT I have a friend like that. We would go to the used book store in town and she would randomly pick up books and smell them....I thought it was pretty adorable

i get positively lathered up about books.  i've even made a few, from paper to binding.
i've been trying to curb my snark since high school, it's not very becoming when i do it, i just don't have a flare for it.  i might think it, but i try to bite my tongue.
The idea of removing any translator's commentary makes me slightly nauseous.

Can I make a guilty confession? Yes the Sax Roemer stuff is incredibly racist, but it's like eating M & Ms. You know the stuff is terrible for you yet you still read them. I read them all on Project Gutenberg, and felt guilty about every page.

On the plus side, it's calorie free.

I'm told if you don't want a book messed with, then you shouldn't get a Kindle. Apparently they remove commentary, drawings, intros, etc not caring how this changes the book.

There's far more obnoxious books to be fair. Most people in the 20s were more than a little xenophobic, but there's none of the pulps or potboilers from then that are half as unpleasant as (say) The Turner Diaries.
