Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (updated)

SteelofUtah -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 11:14:18 AM)

RE-FUCKING-DICKULOUS

All that needs to be said.

Now can someone point out to me how this is not infringing on my Rights? Considering it would stop MANY people from being able to talk about how they feel and others who go to Cyber Churches and others who use the Internet for businesses.

How is this not an infringemnet on certain Constitutional Rights?

Obama just has to ruin my day.

I have blisters from pruning the garden- when my fling showed up on a motorcycle.  So then I blew him- after offering him some snacks.

Anyhow the yard looks good- but I am going to have to pop this one blister.  The rain is nice.

Oh look! All of a sudden, your 'Constitutional Rights' matter, do they?

Funny: only last week, you were arguing that women who had more abortions than you agree with should be forcibly sterilised, and when I pointed out to you that this would be a very ugly violation of their constitutional rights (not to mention downright criminal), you blew up with piss and vinegar.

Gotta make up your mind there, Steel.

I wonder ( not really ) what those on the 'left' would have to say if this came out of the Bush/Cheney whitehouse ? Just another double standard. Were used to it.

Again I will make this point that you just never get.

The Constitution, That paper that your Rights are forged from

DOES give you Freedom of Speech.
DOES give you Freedom of Religion .

It DOES NOT give you Right to Bear Children
It DOES NOT give you Right to Money Because you cannot aford Children
It DOES NOT give you Right to commit a crime because someone elses rights are infringed on.

When you argue CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS you do so in a way that suggests that you should get to do whatever you want because someone else has a right to do this or that.

You ABUSE the Constitution and it is because of a long history of people who think like you who try to find Loop Holes in the Constitution to make it say whatever you want it to say instead of what it was INTENDED for that has led the Constitution to not mean very much.

You piss me off when you say you have a Constitutional Right to have as many abortions as you want when you don't. In fact at anytime a state can make the act of performing an abortion Illegal. If they do it would be a crime to have one. Right now there is no Law that I know of that says you have the RIGHT to have an Abortion. It may be Legally Practiced but that is because there is no law preventing it.

You have a broad use of the word Criminal as well, Criminal implies that a crime has been committed and with what I suggested in that other thread that you are again staying all pissy over because you would rather be right then admit that you are bias on the subject and unable to tell the difference between a Right and a Privledge.

On this subject by violating Rights as outlined in the Constitution such as Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Religion a crime would be committed and committed by the President which is a power that the President should not have and why the Constitution was so important in the first place.

If you Read what I am saying and not what you are wanting to hear you will see that, but something tells me you would rather bitch about things then discuss them so I'll just go back to ignoring you like I usually do.

Arpig -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 12:44:35 PM)

Ummmm, for those of you berating Obama about this, well its a bill being prepared for introduction to the Senate....nothing to do with Obama yet. There's nothing in the article to say one way or another where Obama stands on this bill. If you want to bash Obama, then bash him on something that has something to do with him, not something he has nothing to do with....

sappatoti -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 1:06:40 PM)

You are correct, Arpig. Instead of bashing the Pres for a power he does not yet have, we should be bombarding the US Senate with calls, telegrams, emails, letters, whatever to get this derailed, or at the very least, better though out and worded to state, in great detail, how this plan is to work. As it appears now, the wording of the proposed bill is so vague as to confuse even the experts.

Some of those who commented on the story on the original site have a good, if not expensive solution. Critical systems should not be on a public internet but a more secured, separate intranet. Many major corporations already have extensive intranets as well as the US military. Just expand that concept to cover the power grid, water utilities, etc.

SteelofUtah -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 1:19:30 PM)

I was not bashing the President.

I was asking how him having this power does not infringe on my rights.

I may not like Obama but a bill like this gives ALL PRESIDENTS from him on this power.

I don't give a shit which president it is I don't think WE THE PEOPLE should be okay with him having this as a power.

I will not undermine the President, I find Bashing him to be Childish and Trivial and more important Undermines this Country as a whole, I will however question what he does in the event I do not think it is best for the country a right and responsibility EVERY AMERICAN HAS and SHOULD EXCERSIZE.

sappatoti -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 1:27:24 PM)

I apologize if you felt my comment regarding bashing the President was directed at you specifically. It was not; it was meant for those in this thread who did mention the President by name.

You are correct. This proposed bill has the potential to completely trash the First and Second Amendments, if not others, should it be passed into law and put into effect. There needs to be an outcry from all people who use the Internet directed at the US Senate. I would also go so far as to include the US House of Representatives in protesting this bill as they would eventually have to consider it before it gets sent up to President for signing into law.

Besides, doesn't the President and all other elected officials swear an oath to protect the Constitution, not tread on it?

ShaharThorne -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 1:41:27 PM)

Can't read the article so I am stumped as to what it says. If it does violate our First and Second Amendment rights, there is a chance it will die in committee or on the floor, depending on how much pork is attached to it.

Short and simple answer: It is an infringement on your Constitutional rights. But Obama never promised to uphold the Constitution during his campaign. Only one candidate in the 2008 election campaigned for the Constitution, and that was Ron Paul.

Sadly, the majority voted for Obama and now he's proving exactly what he's all about but unless someone can find legal grounds to impeach him, the rest of us are stuck with him for more than three more years.

violetraven -> RE: Bill would give president emergency control of Internet (UPDATE) (8/28/2009 2:19:08 PM)

He's trying to take away our guns, he's trying to take away our knives, change the constitution in doing so, now this.

::chuckles:: I love the Internet.

Anyone care to read the actual bill you know, just in case you'd like to make up your own mind rather than be scared to death by an OP-ED?

Shhh! I read it a few hours ago, but kept quiet because I was enjoying the circus too much to interrupt it.

The future is laying one's own lines to nearby computers, making and contributing to your own intranet.
