Generally, I like my job, but we've begun going through case files that were submerged in the toxic shit from the hurricane. The county spent over sixty grand having them cleaned and detoxed (supposedly), but the stuff fucking reeks.

I'm not happy about it, and am hoping to win the $210,000,000.00 in tonight's Mega Millions.

Thanks sassee

We're seeing lots of suing here, scavengers raking storm victims over the coals left and right. If we would shoot some of those bastards in the kneecap, a lot of that would stop.

Most welcum Level.   Sadly, I agree with you.........everyone is raking everyone over the coals............personaly responsibility has gone by the wayside, and everyone is looking for the payoff.  Hey, it keeps me employed so I'm not complaining, however, it doesn't mean I agree with it!

But, you got to love that Canadian bacon, healthcare, and beer!

and yet for a long time it seems places where I worked that it was routine to do the work of 2 people in a position.

Greetings tulip,

It isn't just in the US this is happening; zephyr works in a building connected to a hospital in Montreal Canada and she can literally say that she is working under toxic conditions. The area she works in has 30-year-old carpets which were supposed to be super cleaned if not ripped out before she and her coworkers moved in. However they weren't because there wasn't money in the budget. Instead we were moved in with a promise that the carpets would be cleaned only they haven't been because the machine they use broke and is still in the repair shop. In addition to the nasty carpets the windows are sealed and the ventilation doesn't work so we breathe all the mold and other stuff which is in the carpets.  Now we are all having respiratory problems of one kind or another; some have trouble breathing, one woman has been coughing up blood and zephyr has one cold after another it never ends.

One week ago someone from Health and Safety came to have a look and to talk to us. His recommendation is that the carpets be removed asap which is great. The problem is that although this gets rid of the source of our health problems, the mold or whatever it is that lives in the carpets is now on everything, all the furniture, the walls and the paper we use as part of our jobs. That means that there really is no way to make that area completely safe and our feeling is that we should be moved and the furniture and walls be properly cleaned. HOWEVER at least the source will be gone and that is a good first step.

zephyr is thinking that it's time to find another job, one where the employees are valued enough that they don't have to work in a place where they end up sick because the employer puts saving money over people's health. she just finds it so ironic that this is happening in a place which is supposed to be dedicated to getting sick people well again and yet the offices we work in are making us sick.

she wishes all well,

zephyr

zephyr,
i truly wish you and all your co-workers safety, health and peace of mind. To think that someone must work in literal toxic conditions kinds of puts my complaints about work in perspective.

i wish you well, too.

Fascinating.

So....if I read it correctly....they're saying that the economy, in shambles, is forcing people to take (and keep) jobs they hate.

Fascinating.

(Hold on....there's a bug on the floor....brb.....)
