Touchable Hologram Becomes Reality (w/ Video)
August 6th, 2009 by Lisa Zyga

Researchers from the University of Tokyo have developed 3D holograms that can be touched with bare hands. Generally, holograms can't be felt because they're made only of light. But the new technology adds tactile feedback to holograms hovering in 3D space.

...

In the video, the researchers demonstrate how a user can dribble a virtual bouncing ball, feel virtual raindrops bouncing off their hand, and feel a small virtual creature crawling on their palm. The researchers hope that the technology will have applications in video games, 3D CADs, and other uses.

Other uses? What other uses? [8D]

AWESOME!!!  I would love to be able to walk into a holodeck like the ones on ST:TNG, but the sad reality there is that it won't be likely to happen in my lifetime. Still, I see this as  a major advancement in the technology. To get to the level of Star Trek though, computers will have to get thousands of times more powerful than they are now, but I believe it can and probably will happen one day.

According to Moore's Law, that will be ten years away.

[You'd think people who can do such cool things with ultrasound could figure out how to add sound to a YouTube video.]

That....  is pretty damned cool.  [:D]
Give it 20 years I think, with good r&d, and I think we could very well see, at least, the prototype of a "star trek" type holodeck.  We're still a ways off from the full monty, but this is a huge and very impressive step.

Termyn8or -> RE: The Holodeck is one step closer. (8/10/2009 3:56:27 PM)

Kewl, but not a major breakthrough. It's just a combination of extant technology. An advancement of course, with some possibilities.

But really, wake me up when they break the matter/energy barrier. And I put it that way because I believe it will happen, possibly not in our lifetime but eventually if we don't wind up with a planet that is nothing but a huge glass parking lot.

From what I have read over the decades, including Einstein and so forth, I have concluded that mass is energy. It is simply in phase and synched in some way. When they find a way to really analyse that, then will come mechanisms (in the larger sense) to manipulate the forces. When that happens all this shit will be real, and we could actually have holodecks.

If you are one who sees the best in things you see the potential, but if the same people are running the world when and if that happens, watch out. The potential for abuse is enormous.

Of course for us kinksters, that might be a good thing, but I am talking about the government and other nefarious entities.

Perhaps you've heard of nuclear energy?

What is this phenomenon you speak of? [8D]

although.. this springs to mind...

your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you"

Okay so I have been thinking about this.

Touchable Holograms.

Computer Based.

Internet

Porn.

OH MY GOD the Computers really are trying to enslave us.

It starts with a little wind blowing but the next thing you know you will be hooking your cock or your cunny to the PC and buying it more memory because if you don't it will stop giving you pleasure.

Seriously people.

I think they are trying to make us their FOOD.

IT'S PEOPLE ..... IT'S PEOPLE.

What happened to the day when we would all spend all our money chasing a circle around a never changing maze eating up dots and Ghosts and trhe occasional fruit salad?

FR

Now yall got Steel all warmed up, are you fucking happy now ? :-)

But anyway, energy can only manipulate energy, but if mass is energy, therefore mass can be manipulated by energy. It is only a matter of figuring out how.

Puffs of air, supertweeters and all that is just an illusion. The main difference is that it is a sensual illusion rather than a visual illusion. Like I implied hopefully, let me know when they make some kind of real discovery.

In case I hadn't mentioned it, if not for our backward ways, science would be very much more advanced. They put a Man on the moon when I was eight. It should've happened when my Father was eight.
