Well if I had the patience to wait till this post, I wouldn't have had to look it up. Oh well, still a good song.

What I could never understand about a holodeck is the way it’s a small room when they turn the holo-emitters off? Like they’ve had whole episodes in startrek set in wild west towns but as soon as they turn the thing off the room is back to the same size and they are in the centre of it, not the edge or the corner but the centre.

Surely, I think, that if you walk about in a western projected around you as an illusion that at some point you are going to walk into an invisible wall due to running out of physical space in the holodeck? It's impossible to walk on the spot and have the image adjust (you'd still know you were walking on the spot) although the ground could possibly move in some way as you walk and the image changes around you.

Even if I were able to understand the concept of hard light, where a bunch of photons could form a mountain to climb, I’d still have a hard time wondering how they can be half way up the mountain, turn the device off and then be standing level on the ground?
Also why don’t they just make star ships out of hard light?
