OrionTheWolf -> RE: Legal “loophole” in Rhode Island permits 16-year-old strippers (8/3/2009 5:11:38 AM)

A few points: Very few strippers make $1500-$2000, especially in the last 18 months since many people have less of their income to spend on it. Some clubs are nothing more than a cover for a brothel. If you look at any stripper review sites, and they say "extras" that is what they mean. The reason most teenagers are not mature by the age of 16, is that they have not been prepared. Our recent culture seems to want to keep their offspring uneducated about the real world for as long as possible. If you don't want your daughter stripping, then apply persuasion and good education of life to try and avoid it. In the end it is their decision, even if they have to wait another couple of years to put it into effect. There are some heavy psychological issues that stripping can bring out. This has to do with the rejection factor of being told no many times before someone say yes to a table dance, it effects their self esteem so hopefully the parents have helped them to be confident and strong against this. The power a female can have over males may go to their head. Some of the worst of the male population frequent strip clubs, so they are subjected to some pretty foul behavior. Working in the bar environment makes it more likely to drink lots of alchohol, and that can be a problem. There are others, but those come to mind immediately. My slave dances, and has done so for 8 years. It can be a grueling business emotionally, mentally and if you are a pole dancer, physically as well. Someone that is going into this business needs to do so with eyes wide open, and a good understand of the possible pitfalls. One that I forgot to mention is the sudden and significant increase in income can cause many to not understand that it will not last forever. beauty fades with time, and there are many former strippers that now work in some of the same clubs, as waittresses, bartenders, and house Mom's. A small amount may make it to manager, but that is not the norm. I was in the business for several years, and I saw many young, nice girls come and go. I watched some get torn down, and begin to emulate the behavior or other girls that were "helping" them. Many I saw taken advantage of by many people in the industry. In the vast majority of clubs, there is a profound sadness in many of the people and once you recognize it, it becomes depressing. I am not so sure that at 16 a girl can make a well informed consent to get into this. Most have not been prepared to be an adult by their parents. In our lifestyles many of us speak of informed consent, well that applies in life and hopefully they do so with eyes wide open.
