Now, now, now....we're hijacking the lovely Lilly's thread......

(But sounds good to me, it's just a matter of when will I be able to get up there?)

I have inadvertently done a test, as this is a new profile and some people know who I am (yeah like I made it hidden) they will know I was pretty well established as an over obsessive poster. However I have noticed that due to my perceived newness some members have been far more likely to get the torches out than they would have been previously (I mean I never got it with my last name)

I am only writing this because I know that it is a pretty frequent question about this site, whether the length of time someone has been here or the icon under their image impacts on how people receive them. It does

I think that part of it is that we do not have enough of a new person's history.  Often times I have seen people with few posts start a thread about a relationship problem.  Well, we really do not know the whole story or even a little bit of background.  So it is like looking at a bit of mirror, through a key-hole, in the dark.  And so they get snarky responses.

People that have many posts to their name, are more well known on the boards, and so more background information is known about them, and so it is easier to give a better response.

Add to that, I think that people that have been posting a little longer have a better idea of how to word a question so that a specific thing can be asked.  Kind of like learning to write a thesis statement in school.  When people start out, they make their statement much to broad for their paper.  With time and practice they are able to get specific.

Just my thoughts on this.  I could be wrong.

I didn't have that experience.  My first post here was well recieved and went over 12 pages as I recall.  And as someone who responds to posts I can tell you I never look at whether it is an ice cream cone or a paddle.  There are plenty of multi posters out there I will not read, as I am sure there are those who will not read mine.  It is not the percieved newness which makes me doubt if they have all their sparkplugs firing, it is the content of their post.

My first post was in response to a question and I got trashed from someone who is no longer here. Except I didn't know the type of person she was and took what she wrote too serious and went back in to edit my post. THEN I learned more about her and realized I should have just ignored her.

Oh well, live and learn.....

I remember way back when, my first few posts were totally ripped apart and then I realised the nature of the beast and learned to generally slink in the background for a while. Then it no longer became a problem and I could post pretty much anything unscathed.

After the trashing, I just said "FUCK IT" and hung out down in P&RS, playing the game threads.  Of course, most people now know how THAT ended...

I have a relatively thick skin most times but sometimes, something said, or not said, gets to me. Then if I'm thinking clearly enough, I just say "back away from the computer, it's not worth it, it's just not worth it."

That's what the PS2 is for.....

Gosh, I feel. . . I am not sure.  I did not have that experience.

Go figure.

I was thrashed but I dished it right back with style and sarcasm and I didnt take things personally or hold grudges. So eventually even the most anti Lushy became my friends.
