What a bunch of safety ninnies.

Sterile is nice... but you are unlikely to die from sticking a safety pin through a nip.

I'd get a sterile needle, but often use merely clean jewelry.

risk aware

Aye! I agree

In regards to some of the others:

There is really no risk to be aware of when piercing.  You take more of a risk driving a car in the snow than death by piercing..  I've pierced my lip, nose eyebrow and tried to do my industrial - the holes did not line up.  Not all at once mind you, I hate needles.  None were done in clinical settings.

The sad truth is the vast majority of piercers haven't a clue.  Ask Mr.Suspension here I am sure he can vouch.

There are only 10-15 knowledgeable piercing schools in this country - if that?  Fakir and Gauntlet come to mind but Gauntlet is gone.

Back to the suspension thing I just think it is weird...  Does nothing for me watching and I do not believe I desire to try it.

most professional piercers learn by apprenticeship...

personally, as far as nipples go, a DIY would go much slower than a pro (causing extended pain and afore mentioned wonky hole), the placement would likely be wrong, and the angle would probably be off...i've had it done on mine...they looked funny - neither vertical nor horizontal - and then they migrated because they were too far forward...

We all know wonky holes are bad!
