motje -> sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 11:25:35 AM)

I've never posted here before, so it could very well be I'm posting this in a place where it doesnt belong. If that is the case, please move this.

But I have a burning question.
The last few weeks I've been contacted by no less than 3 so called domly males here, that all were seriously enquiring bout sex with minors,  telling me it was natural to do so, and more disgusting stuff like that... and all of them within a few mins of chat or after only 1 previous mail btw.

What are this sites rules about obvious pedo's?
If there aren't any rules on this, I'd like to know, for than I'll prefere to leave here asap.
If there are in fact rules, who can I adress here on this subject? And will they be banned?

When you look at a profile of someone, there is a button to click on that says"report profile". Please use it!!

It is very much against the rules and I'm sure the vast majority of people on this site would agree!

motje -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 11:36:39 AM)

Thanks, but the problem is that they dont refer to it in their profile.
I have saved the chats and emails though....

Actually yes there are rules regarding that and about anything else that is illegal. What you need to do is report the emails and chats to support and to your local law enforcement. The direct quote on what you need to do is as follows.

quote:

Reporting Illegal Conduct

If you become concerned about possible improper or illegal conduct relating to one or more persons who may have created an account on this public website, you should consider contacting your local law enforcement agency. They will be in a position to interview you and take your statement, gather evidence, interview relevant witnesses, issue subpoenas, and otherwise investigate your claims in an impartial manner. For legal reasons, we are not able to investigate allegations of criminality outside the context of law enforcement.

RedMagic1 -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 11:43:58 AM)

When you open an email, there is a "Report" button visible.  Click that button, and the first "reason" to report is Illegal Conduct.  Choose that, and hit report.

The site is set up so the Moderators of the message boards (this side of the site) have no control over the email/profiles side of the site.  The Support volunteers manage the profile side.  So the Report button -- and also the "Support" link at the bottom of your homepage -- are the best ways to reach the CM people who can deal with the problem.

Anything offsite, like saved Yahoo chat logs, is something you would need to deal with on your own.

motje -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 11:52:28 AM)

Well, this exactly nails the problem.
They are smart guys.
They know what they are doing is illegal.
So they dont mention these activities and likings in their profile here, or in mails on this site.

But as soon as you get to yahoo or msn or outside email they do.
And so, based on the fact that the site doesnt act on those,  they cant be banned... and still are here.
Also, what I found to be alarming, is that they all were in the same country.
I find this to be inmensely bothering....
.
I would really prefer an IP ban based on mails I can present....
And furthermore, I think that the fact that these individuals are in fact here, might bring the existance of this site as such in danger?

In that case, they might be profiles operated by the same person.

Don't let this throw you too much.  There are a lot of good people on the site.  It sounds, frankly, as though you have a nasty troll coming after you with multiple profiles.  I bet it would clear up if you got one guy shut down.

Maybe just do CM video chat for a while, not offline, if you want more on-site reporting ability.  However, you can report their Yahoo or MSN account to Yahoo or MSN, given the chat logs you have now.

Bingo!  Yatzee!!  Our survey says!!!  (Hey, I *liked* Bruce Almighty.)

If you are running into this problem repeatedly with the same result, it's stemming from the same source.  Either one person or a group of persons with the same intent.  The reason it's continuing is because it was something that worked once, and it will keep working so long as you don't change how you are handling it.

Since you've already made yourself a target, stop what made it successful in your case.  Skip doing the alternative contact (yahoo, msn, whatever) for a few days.  If the subject comes up in a cm mail, report it at once.  If you have the old messages, you can still report them to the site.  The report feature doesn't go away just because it's no longer considered new mail.

angelikaJ -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 12:10:49 PM)

I am assuming they are from a different country than you are?

I think soliciting minors across international borders will be taken quite seriously.
Report then to your local law enforcement officials.

motje -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 12:12:10 PM)

Redmagica, thanks.
And justme... I will indeed report them to the authorities...

But what bothered me was the idea of some kind of a network.
Pedo's, as far as I know, use networks.

And if they use this site for that, that would be bad news for the site IMO.

Arpig -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 12:49:49 PM)

A couple of things to keep in mind. The age of consent varies greatly from one country to another. I believe it is pretty much universally 18 in the US, however in Canada it is 14, and in the UK, it is to the best of my knowledge 16. Therefore it is entirely possible that what the person is talking about is 100% legal in their jurisdiction.
Reporting them to this site or to Yahoo or MSN will at best get their account shut down, and they can just open a new one. As to blocking an IP, well they can always use an online proxy to mask their IP, or simply change their IP (it is very simple to do), so that won't actually accomplish much of anything. What you should do is to contact the police. They have the authority to investigate and get the person's info from the ISP, they are also in a position to know if the person has done anything prosecutable. You have the saved chats and emails, contact your local police or FBI office and talk to them.

I REALLY find this hard to believe, I have been on this site in this life and a former one for over 5 years and I have NEVER had any email like that--and any that I thought were too ver the top, I reported and used that thing called BLOCK and never had any more issues.

I agree I have never encountered this either..and have been here for yep..probably 5 years on da whole (off n on tho but still..)
I also agree, you need to realize that the age of minors depends on the country in question.
What considered is a minor in one country doesn't mean they are one in another.

Personally I would still report their profile here if this is where they first made contact with you.

DemonKia -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 2:32:24 PM)

CM's legal responsibility is to do what they can. The structures they have in place are to facilitate that. Suppressing the pedo thing is clearly one of the top concerns of places like CM . . . . .

Given that your profile says you're in the Netherlands, & that these are ostensibly solicitations from another country, I'd say you should report it to the Dutch police & to Interpol, both.

(Our word/s for "paedo's" is/are different [from UK]) Please pass on your concerns to your local law, I would not want to delay the scrutiny process.

If you get bored after your call, read on :

There are rules on this site ... why don't you just read them ? ... the rules are all there. (bend them ... I would [sm=evil.gif])but this is their (cm's) space.

You are the person most responsible for your own decisions (or actions)

(steals shu'up' back from the convicts) (North Hemisphere convicts of course ... I wouldn't want to upset my chance at a geriatric "Walkabout" some day)

(If I start giving lectures on "responsible" use of the boomerang ... surely THAT counts as a contribution to our human heritage ?) (which ... brings us neatly back to .... those tender legs)

CatdeMedici -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 4:13:59 PM)

Way to go Pirate! It is My feeling that this site is run to the standards if the US which is  what we all know,

So for goddess sakes people, grow up, report what is squeegie and the rest, suck it up.

motje -> RE: sites responsabilaty? (7/12/2009 4:28:06 PM)

Cat, obviously I have no real means to make you believe this, without forwarding private mails. Which I wont do, for reasons of privacy. Even if I'm appalled  and disgusted beyond belief..
For I'm not the jugde here.
.
But I would like you to know I've left sites over this issue before.
Like FL.
Cause John Baku simply refuses to ban obvious paedo's?
He just removes their postings and otherwise lets then be?

I. for one, dont want to be a part of a site that impliciitely or explicitely allows paedo's? Ever?
It's wrong on all levels?

Cause, by its nature, it simply cant be consentual?
