Yes.  There are many married couples who also do BDSM and have their own "Dom/sub understanding."  For me personally, I won't play with someone unless I'd enjoy going to dinner and doing nilla things with her too.  I get no joy out of a spank-a-booty call.

Kelly, express what you want. I know age 18 feels like you're all grown up, but really its okay to have a 'normal' romantic relationship if you want one. Change your mind a thousand times if it suits you. You don't have to dive off into the deep end of the sexual pool (BDSM) before you even know how you feel about vanilla dating.  JMHO, IMBFOS

I like sirsholly advice. Take it slow, communicate, and you'll be fine. I've had relationships that were D/S in the bedroom, and going to the supermarket/mall together vanilla.

Communication is the key to most relationships.

Sweetie, it is not a huge disaster. These kinds of relationships work out all the time. But before you get too carried away, I would caution you to slow down and take a deep breath. Folks in these very intense relationships can get really carried away sometimes. Further, you need to talk to him. These kinds of feelings unreciporcated hurt. Be safe, smart, and careful. I'm with the crowd thinking it makes things better to really like or love the person you're playing with. I've done a play session or two outside of that type of situation and it was fun- I'm definitely not knocking it. I just think for me I gravitate to the deeper connection I feel if there is an emotional relationship in place as well. There are a lot of committed couples here on the message boards at CM that seem to have the whole package going on with love AND D/s. I don't feel from their postings that D/s has taken a back seat in their lives because they have a deep emotional connection with each other. Quite the opposite, it can open up things to a greater level.

I can also personally say that I was with a total bastard of a Dom for a while that never lost his edge even though we had some feelings for each other so it can happen - depends on the guy.
