There are engagement rings, wedding rings, chastity rings.. someone has propose a ring for single people (finger type).

If you are single..would you wear one to show your availability status?
I think it's a good idea personally.

To suggest I'm single?

Hopefully, those that would wear one would be what they indicate :)

You might try the Claddagh, they're very beautiful.

Weren't finger rings originally a symbol of ownership ?

Maybe derived from the annulus pronubis of the Romans, a betrothal ring, same thing really, it says keep off, the wearer is an owned person.

I think the wearing of no rings symbolises availability, but having said that I wear three rings, all self made at different times of my life. The latest being a wrought iron ring, which seems not to want to come off. Am working on another though, iron inlaid with the melted down gold of my wedding ring.

i've found that wearing a wedding ring is the best way to promote your availability status...

in other words, i got hit on more when i was married and flaunting my ring than not...

sad but true.

I luv bling n often wear rings on every single finger howwwwwwever... I think a 'single' ring is kinda...not.
You notice wedding rings n I think that's just a fine way to say i'm off da market..
I'm not into rings having many official meanings. Eventually one needs to start staring at a persons fingers trying to figure out WHAT the ring is supposed to mean.
Too many complications. It's fine to have a single ring if the meaning is solely for yourself, but not if it's going to serve a purpose as a world-wide symbol like the wedding band.

Sure! I wear the claddagh on my right pinky finger crown towards me so that the people who know about such things know my status.
On the next finger I wear a "starburst" ring.
