Actually mine was 21 years old.

Andi never got a drivers license. So when she was court odered to get a drivers license (LONG Story, no you don't need to know but just know a judge said get a drivers license or go to jail) I had to teach her to drive.

Driving is something that it important to learn, Being that I was with her all the time it fell to me to teach her.

Now MIND you there were SERIOUS ANNOYANCES, but it comes with being responsible for teaching someone. Even today she HATES driving with me in the car because I FORCE her to be a good driver and I will tell her what to do even now.

Ok...I don't 'critique' her. I actually rely on the teaching that she got from the classes ( which did include 60 hours of actual road driving with the instructor ). I don't sit there and tell her she's doing this wrong or that wrong...it's just...I have a hard time NOT being the one in control of the actual driving..that's where my 'horrible passenger' comes in at. I hate the feeling of not being the one in control....as I said, it comes from years of being tortured by my brothers and late husband lol...the beasts

dayum, but it's driving me up the wall that I can't relax enough so that she's not nervous with me in the car

Maybe that is your problem.

Andi will tell you She may have been the one in the Drivers seat but it was obvious that I will still in control of how the car was driven .

**She is Agreeing VEROCIOUSLY right now***

Here's a thought, maybe sit in the backseat or bring a friend of yours along wherein they can distract you (and get her use to trying with other distractions) call a friend on the phone or hell do what my mom did, start talking about her and what she is doing and all the little questions you want to know lol.  Actually, it really is a good place to play catch up with each other.  grins but i am afraid i am with her -- you need up suck it up mom.

To be serious for a minute, she does need to learn to drive in the city downtown with one way streets and all that kind of fun stuff.  BUT lol i think you better let a friend do this with her a couple times or grit your teeth and let her be IN CONTROL mom!! lol

grins as she watches Mist age before her time.  Mist there is a saying, if you aren't old after raising kids, you never will be old.

angel

PS, i took drivers ed in highschool for a semester and passed.  I refused to drive when i was in HS lol cause i didn't like the car i would have had to drive or the rules lol i would have had to follow -- so i never got my licences so they couldn't force me to drive lol. (Yes my dad's name for me is brat).  I then was in the City of Chicago so didn't need a car.  My mom called me one day and said, have your cousin take you to get your licence, come home so we can get you a car.  grins, i was 22, hadn't driven except maybe around the block lol since i was 16.  I got my licences and my car on the same day and have been driving ever since.

grins so sometimes experience driving isn't all its cracked up to be lol.

I'm 25 and I still don't drive even after being the only one to get 100% on both the written and practical tests in driver's ed. because my parents, both my natural parents and my step dad refuse to let me drive their cars to practice and I still don't know how to parallel park. Thankfully I don't like driving anyway and I only live a mile from work so can walk everyday, and the grocery store is across the street from work. The only advice I can give you is do you have a family member or best friend who lives close by and has free time to take her out if you can't handle going with her? I'm sure you don't want to have to play chauffer for the rest of her life lol.

I didn't get my driver's license until I was 23. I had a lot of anxiety as a teenager and the anti-anxiety medication made me so sluggish that I was concerned about getting in an accident and not being able to react quickly enough. In my early 20's I found a new medication that helped and didn't dope me up and I got my license.
I wouldn't drive with either of my parents, they are also terrible passengers.
In fact, I am 29 now and I still refuse to drive if either of them are in the car (except for emergencies of course).
My father is a neurotic control freak who yells all the time, and my mother is wrapped tighter than a Swiss watch. You go so much as a mile over the speed limit and you can actually see her blood pressure rising, LOL.
I paid a professional driving school to teach me. There's no way I could have learned with either of them.

I think this is a great idea... have the friend sit up front, and you in the back :)

Decide which outcome you want:

1. A nervous, anxious driver, or

2. a confident, happy driver.

If it's number 2, either don't drive with them, OR wear a fucking ball gag/hood.

OH Lord Miss Angel LMAO...two days old and my mom nicknamed her 'the BRAT' . How funny is that; she is still called that to this day, despite how much she hates it lol.

grins, hey Mist -- When i was 18 i walked into my Dad's work which i hadn't been for a long time, and asked to see him.  The woman asked me who i was and i was like  his daughter.  Her eye's got wide and said OMG YOU'RE THE BRAT?  Then she flushed and whispered, i am sorry but i don't actually know your name. I was like DADDDDDD!??!

I didn't learn to drive until I was 35 and moved out of Manhattan. Normal people don't drive in Manhattan, you spend more time looking for a parking place than going to and from. Driving was easy to do, parallel parking was a bitch. I paid a private driving school to teach me to park and then had to deal with my husband sitting in the car while I was practicing. It didn't help that at the time the side streets in the town I live in still didn't have curbs, they came in since. Had to drive 15 miles up to the county seat to find streets with curbs to practice parking on. I still prefer not to parallel park if I can avoid it.
