In some ways, I liked Seether's version better than the original.

Okay this has got to be the coolest things I have ever come across.

Violent Femmes - Crazy

Yeah Violent Femmes did Gnarles Barkley's Crazy, With thier own Spin and it is almost a completely different song.

I am a Fan of both versions but coming out of the Violent Femmes it feels more understanderable.

Enjoy Peoples

No, this is Seether the band, not Seether the song... However, my all-time favorite song by Veruca Salt was "Aurora" from the Tank Girl soundtrack. I could see Evanescence covering that one.

My favorite cover is when Johnny Cash did the Nine Inch Nails song, Hurt. You'd think it would be ridiculous...but it was so emotional, I cried.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go

A little background on this.

I am a HUGE Johnny Cash Fan, I think I was more hit by his death than I was with my Grandfathers.

In an Interview talking about the song with Trent Reznor he was quoted as saying "the song is Johnny's now" some people thought what he meant was that he would not do it again since it was covered by someone else. This is NOT the case, Apparently Trent was Moved by Johnny Cashes Take on it and seeing it as an Analogy for a Man coming to terms with his death and coming to terms with the fact that he is not god and Trent did not feel he could instill the kind of emotion that Johnny could and felt that he could no longer do the song Justice.

After Cash Died Trent made sure to do the song at every concert on his tour, using Johnny Cashes ReWrite which removed the swearing and kept the analogy to Jesus with the reference to the crown of thorns.

It STILL makes me cry.

That's pretty cool, Steel. I never knew the history of Johnny Cash's version, though I did know that Trent Reznor was never pissed off about it like the stupid 'rags' tried to imply.

I have to admit a perverse affection for Trent Reznor, but I have to say that I love both versions in their own right. To me, this is an example of one of the two best ways to do a cover. One is to do it with absolute respect for the original, and the other is to draw from inside to create something that uses the original as a framework on which to build something completely exceptional in and of itself, that stands alone from the original piece.

I bet you guys are tired of all the Covers I am Bringing up.

This is another cover of Crazy I posted one by the Violent Femmes however I just fond another one and I like this one the best, I guess this guy is kinda famous I had never heard of him before I saw him on Saturday Night Live as the Guest Performer.

Crazy - Ray Lamontagne

I think this version gets into the deepness of the song, it is strange how two exact same songs can illicit a different emotion in me.

Gnarles Version makes me feel comepletely different than this version does.

I hope you all enjoy.

Here is one where I think the only point was making a pretty song into a Metal/Punk one.

Silverstein "Apologize" Cover

It is a Cover done originally by One Republic. For all that was changed the song is pretty much still the same.

I don't know I like it but I would rather listen to the Original.

Radiohead Cover

Creep By The Pretenders.

Now I like the Pretenders and Creep is my FAVORITE Radiohead song (Even if every member of the band HATES the song) However the two coming together just don't work for me there is something about a MALE singing this song that I connect with very well.

I would actually like to see Blue October or The Cure do this song either one I think I would enjoy but nothing like the original for me for this one I related to this song in Grade School so it's one of those where the original is more than just a song to me it was an emotion that I felt growing up.

See, I thought it was great with Chrissy... especially the 3rd verse

"I don't care if it hurts,
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul"

Now you tell me that isn't -just- like a woman. *grinz*

Speaking of covers that make no sense...

Sheryl Crow's version of Prince's song "Every Day is A Winding Road" was a fantastic commercial success...ever wonder why he threw her that bone and then released it later by himself?

Maybe he was courting her! Doubtful though, he appears to like the darker beauties.

I still say I should own him..... He would look adorable on a jeweled collar and leash.

....of course it's lightweight, that's the cardigans.

Extremely negative lyrics with a syrupy sweet sound. I like the juxtaposition.

I like odd covers.

Still trying to find a punk version of suicide is painless that I heard on the radio.

Marilyn Manson did a version for Books of Shadows / Blair Witch 2

Don't get me started....

...but the movie version of the Mission Impossible theme deserves special dishonor--taking a catchy jazz tune in irregular meter and turning it into a heavy handed 4/4 rock tune was just criminal.

A great song can be found anywhere. Do yourself a favor and go find the originals.

As some people here know I'm a lover of reggae music which is full of cover versions.

How about these?

The Mohawks covering the Beatles' 'Let It Be' (Pama)

Pinoy covering Eric Clapton's 'Wonderful tonight'.

Bob Marley's version of the Eagles 'Hotel California'.

Skid Row doing "Little Wing". Sebastian Bach has a hell of a set of pipes, and he really cuts loose on this tune.

I was thinking of how many times this song has been done, the other day... Hendrix, Derek and the Dominoes, SRV, and Skid Row, that I know of. I like'em all.
