SteelofUtah -> Covers that Make NO SENSE at all.... You Vote Good or Good GOD is that wrong (6/21/2009 12:32:05 PM)

Okay so I came across this and I thought it was a Travesty.

Then I Listened to it.

VERY DIFFERENT, But I kinda like it.. I know I loose all my cool points for liking it but seriously it's got a catchy beat and flows much better than I thought it would.

The Cardigans  - Iron Man (Yes the Black Sabbath Ozzy Osbourne Song)

So your Vote Good or WHAT THE FUCK???

Also I would appreciate if you actually listen to the song and not just hate it because it isn't the Oz Man.

Here is another one.

John Lennon doing Stand By Me,

It just doesn't sound Right I LOVE John but this just seems wrong.

I loved the Lennon version of stand by me.  Different but good.

The cardigans doing iron man was totally wrong to me.  I thought they sounded like a bad tribute band made up of junior high school kids.  IMO it was not a good song for them.

The Cardigans just didn't work for me.  What were they thinking???  The running time, I noticed, was 4:20.  A clue?

I'd never heard the Lennon version before.  Different.  I may have to hear it a few times to decide if I like it.

Another one that made no sense the first time was when Korn took on Another Brick in the Wall 1-3 The guitar solo is still a bit of a joke, but I have come to appreciate the application of an angry stomp to one of my favorite songs

I much prefer the Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne version. I listened to the other version but found it lightweight.

I'm also another one who is disturbed by John Lennon's 'Stand By Me'. It's pleasant enough, and it's John Lennon of course, but it's not like 'Jealous Guy'.

But then again I much prefer Derrick Morgan's rocksteady cover of 'Stand By Me' which came out on Trojan Records.

Honestly when i first read the post i thought WHAT!! the Cardigans remaid Iron Man...thats gunna be lame, but after i listened to it..i liked it. Dont get me wrong it dosent touch the original but it had a nice flow and was easy to grove too, and yes i think the whole 4:20 thing had something to do with it lol

couldbemage -> RE: Covers that Make NO SENSE at all.... You Vote Good or Good GOD is that wrong (6/21/2009 8:44:19 PM)

....of course it's lightweight, that's the cardigans.

Extremely negative lyrics with a syrupy sweet sound. I like the juxtaposition.

I like odd covers.

Still trying to find a punk version of suicide is painless that I heard on the radio.

hated the iron man cover.
I actually liked the Lennon cover.

Damn. That really was good. You do have quite extraordinary tastes in the arts. Thanks for sharing that.

I've heard some really odd covers over the years, but the one that always stands out as the strangest was the Wallflowers' version of "Heroes." I've never much cared for them to begin with (dad apparently got all the talent in the Dylan family), but that cover was particularly nauseating to me. A stellar song, rendered bland and uninspiring by a... well, bland and uninspiring band.

I really like Keane but certain people need to stay away from Depesh Mode

Enjoy The Silence by Keane

I feel this is just wrong and he should be forces to wear a humbler for a day just for trying this.

Radiohead Cover

Creep By The Pretenders.

Now I like the Pretenders and Creep is my FAVORITE Radiohead song (Even if every member of the band HATES the song) However the two coming together just don't work for me there is something about a MALE singing this song that I connect with very well.

I would actually like to see Blue October or The Cure do this song either one I think I would enjoy but nothing like the original for me for this one I related to this song in Grade School so it's one of those where the original is more than just a song to me it was an emotion that I felt growing up.

Truly not into the Iron Man cover... ewww...then again, I'm highly biased, because, in general, I don't like The Cardigans on a good day.

I like the Lennon "Stand by Me", though. I'm "eh" about the Christian Ice version of Whatever, Whenever. I like Shakira's video, though...like that hot underwater mermaid look. *grins*. I think the Keane version of "Enjoy the Silence" was... stark. While it reinforced the power of the lyrics, I think that the richness of the original was lost, and along with it, my interest... sort of like trying to make a Lemon Curd without butter -- it may still be lemon, but the depth is gone and it isn't nearly as creamy-good.

JUST PLAIN WRONG!

Alanis Morriset - My Humps

That's right Boys and Girls The crazy bitch went and did a cover of Black Eyes Peas and Fergie's My Humps.

It is a Ballad in her version..... Yeah a Ballad. With a Monolithic Piano in a rather emotional movemnet with Alannis doing a version of the song in a whiney voice I can only compare to Mariah Carey, In it's annoyance not in her vocal ability.

Junk and Trunk are words that are supposed to instill emotion?

Okay This is a Cover I can get behind.

The Roots - In the Name of Love.

It is a U2 Cover done at a Benifit where Bono attended. Few People actually know that this song is about Dr. Martin Luther King. I think they do an Awsome job at it and knowing what the Roots styand behind I can think of few other bands who could pull the song off. Bono is a hard man to cover his Music Strains are hard to duplicate because they don't always follow the typical rules of Music.

I think this is a GREAT cover and hopefully more people who enjoy it now that they know it is a song about peace in the face of war.

White Lies - Love Lockdown

It is orginally a Kanye West song, I am not a huge fan of Kanye and I don't care for his version of this song, This one however I am rather fond of. Then again I think it may just be I like the Lead Singers voice of White Lies.

My favorite cover is when Johnny Cash did the Nine Inch Nails song, Hurt. You'd think it would be ridiculous...but it was so emotional, I cried.

I'm pretty sure it was meant to be a joke.
