GreedyTop -> I hope you've got short legs when you fly... (6/11/2009 7:48:34 AM)

Some US Airlines are adding more seats, shrinking legroom

Marc2b -> RE: I hope you've got short legs when you fly... (6/11/2009 7:52:21 AM)

Why even bother with seats anymore? They should just run a bar down the middle of the plane with those grab handles - like on subways.

LOL theres an idea.....

Great!   People are getting bigger (I mean taller as well as wider), and they're shrinking seats.    I have a hell of a time being comfortable, and my legs aren't all that long...  Than some person in front of me wants to lay back on my legs/lap...  Oh the fun that is flying nowadays.     M

Whatever happened to the "free-market?"
You know, "the customer is always right" and all that good stuff?
You can get so "efficient" that life becomes miserable!
Ever notice how all those efficiency experts never want to do the things that they want *you* to do?
This will be the Airline version of "waterboarding."
Time to start making a bunch of reservations for flights and then canceling them!

Air travel is so not a fun experience anymore. [>:]

First AA took away seats for comfort , now the newest members of the fleet is going to be more crowded, the trays will scrap my knees or I am too fat to where I am charged double for a single seat.

Can't they just listen to the customers' wants and needs and not to the bottom line? Wait...the bottom line is to survive....*growls*

I can recall flying to Atlanta on business. The cheapskates booked on Vanguard Airlines and it was so cramped i actually sat in the lotus position to save my kneecaps from the seat in front of me.

Thank goodness we did not require a car rental...we would have ended up with a Yugo [8|]

Indeed...my trip to gran canaria last week was hell in a plane from "thomas cook." I did fly a lot in my life with aircanada, ryan air, british airways, lufthansa, monarch and what the heck all the names are...but I will avoid to ever fly with thomas cook again, if I can...that was my worst flight ever space wise...I do know that flights can cause agony with my fms, but that flight was just the worst ever comfort wise...

Has it ever been?

I am small and compact in build but if the seats get smaller we are going to need mandatory shower and deodorant checks before boarding! Oh yeah, and extra annoyance points for the jerk-offs who lower their seat all the way back when drinks are being served or the parents who do not keep their offspring from kicking the seats in front of them.

Vendaval -> RE: I hope you've got short legs when you fly... (6/11/2009 12:28:22 PM)

I used to enjoy flying even though seated in coach or economy. It was much less annoying until the security became endless and the airlines started charging extra for what used to be included in the price of a ticket.

Of course extra security is needed now but some of the steps taken have been over-kill. That is another thread though. [;)]

I absolutely agree.   I used to love flying, to just about anywhere...  Ok anywhere less than 8hours away.   Now, the whole thing is such an ordeal, that I think about flying to a favorite spot, which was previously an 1hour flight/2hour deal man and is now a 4+hour endeavor, and than forget it.    M

Same here. I used to just love flying, partly for the sheer fun of it and partly because I just like traveling and flying is the most time-efficient way to do it. I now consciously travel less than I used to simply because I've come to hate the experience of flying. The crowding, the delays, the increasingly terrible customer service from the airlines... the only thing it's got going for it anymore is that it's still the quickest way to get from  one city to another, but every other aspect is such a downside, it more than balances out the convenience factor.

My next trip to California, I'm seriously thinking of driving my Subaru from Minnesota. It would be more expensive, and take more time, but if you factor in the money I'd be saving on a car rental, it really starts to look like a much more attractive option that flying in a sardine can full of rude, noisy people. The only problem is, I just don't think I'd enjoy driving a standard transmission up and down the cliffsides in San Francisco.

That stopped sometime after people started saying "I know you don't sell shoes, here, but I bought them here! No, I don't have a receipt, I want a full refund!"

(yes, things like that actually happened)

This is going to really ruin me. I already don't fit well (leg-room wise as well as size wise) even in an exit seat. This means that the only place I'll be able fly is somewhere that I'm not coming back in! Blech, I get car sick and stuff going by wheels, so this sort of thing, if it keeps happening, will pretty much mean I can only fly 1st class... which means I won't ever fly. Things like this will LOSE them business more than increase efficiency.

Holy shit!  I'm flying almost all AA and that's a terrible pitch already.  As much as I'd like to get out of MD-80s, I sure won't like a shorter pitch.

At least UA had a reasonably priced Economy Plus section.

thornhappy -> RE: I hope you've got short legs when you fly... (6/11/2009 3:34:26 PM)

Airlines weren't trying to be the fuckin' "Greyhound of the Skies", increase fares, and provide decent service.

Either that or re-regulate the sods.  Yes, more can travel by air nowadays, but everything else has gone straight to hell.

ShaharThorne -> RE: I hope you've got short legs when you fly... (6/11/2009 4:02:03 PM)

While we're on airlines...

On ABC news tonight, a few representatives and senators were discovered to partake chartered flights instead of cheaper commercial ones. Didn't we just got on the arses of executives who took bailout funds and did the same damned thing with meetings in exotic places? I dared these asps to get in the newest planes of AA and deal with the lack of promptness, the lack of customer service, the constant delays and the lack of empathy from security.

*starts growling again*
