Help Identifying a Tarot Set. - 6/9/2009 3:49:12 AM

This is a long shot and yes I know I was silly not to ask at the time.
Tarot Cards.  Now I saw a set and instead of being sensible and asking what they were, I just ambled off with the 'they were so lovely' thought in my head.
Now I am regreting it.  I have done some research and cannot find any similar so I am hoping some CMers might be able to give some names for me to look into.
They were extremely colourful and flowing - not like traditional RiderWaite but not cartoonie like Phoenix and not artistic like Golden.  I am edging more towards that they were more Oracle than Tarot.  When I suggest that they were 'flowing' - I mean that they looked painted more than a drawing as the colours seemed to intertwine - like a heavy watercolour or acrylic.  The numbered cards did not seem to have suits, but then I didn't get a very close look.  The three for example, had just the word three on the bottom in letters, with three square bars in the centre that were seperate but combined to make a triangle.  The cards on the whole were deep, dark colours but very colourful (if that makes sense).  So magentas, deep blues, dark yellows. etc.
The back of the card was black.  It had a white pentacle in the middle that was about a third the size of the card.  No other words or patterns.
The were held by a mystic, rather than a gypsy or ww so I am wondering if they were middle eastern?
Thanks in advance.

If I had images, I could identify them myself.  This was a traveller, I got a fleeting glimpse and didn't want to jump in and interupt his readings - that would have been not so cool.

Here are some deck names you can research:

Visconti
Ancient Enlightened
Tarot of the Renaissance
Leonardo Da Vinci Tarot

There are over 500 different designs, but this link may help get you started:
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/

Also, in the metaphysical section of most large bookstores, like Barnes and Noble, they have a display case that always has several as well. I am not familiar with the one you describe but it does sound like it is more of an older art, Medieval perhaps.

Hope this helps.

The rohrig set is lovely.  It is very symbolic, which is how this other set was.  I should also add that the cards were quite sturdy.  I could be just clutching at straws, fo all I know they could be a handmade set.
I cannot see it in that list.  Thank you Fitz.

Thanks for that site - I have been going through it but no luck before, I will go through it again.
Unfortunately none of the ones you listed are it.

I am just frustrated at myself that I did not ask him.  Ah well, my lesson to learn!

The more I look into it, the more convinced I am that its an oracle set.  I do tend to be drawn to oracle than Tarot - I honestly am so frustrated at myself.

Well, I spend a lot of time with the Tarot sets and those sites, I will keep My eyes open for you as well.  You might also contact someone who does readings at a tea or coffee house or metaphysical store, with that description they might be able to identify them for you-or even contact one of those stores---food for thought--.

I am afraid not bearhuggable one.  The set was a lot 'darker' than those.  Lots of oranges and reds - less blue and less light.

Darcy.    PLEASE please- leave it alone.

Don't go there.

Just don't.     Take a deep breath and clear your mind.     The occult is not something to mess with.

Listen to a few episodes of revelations radio.     Simple observing of some of it can put a spell on you.   The media gets into a massive chants- rituals that produce a sort of mass spell.

I get along with everybody.   This does include people who enjoy the occult.

But if I have to take a side- the blood of Jesus Christ is my being.

I could tell you a few horror stories- but frankly - just reposting it could unleash some very bad things to a loved one.

So- please be careful.

Trend toward dream interpretation.    NLP.   Subliminal messages.    The occult is not to be taken lightly.

Yes I know.  That is why I want them.
(.thatismejustfunningbtw.)

PA. -  bless you but not everything is about the negative - and cards are not about the occult unless you make them about it.  You are making assumptions on why I want them.
You project that which you want onto anything  - from cards to idols like the virgin mary.  Your life is in your own hands.
