Status: offline 		Wanted to recount something that just happened. My slave and I went on the front porch to smoke a cigarette, and she begged for some oreos and milk. I told her we didn't have any oreos, but she could put it on the grocery list. I told her to make sure it was the real oreos and not any of those generic kind. I told her that I hate "generic oreos". At that moment, someone walking up the driveway of my neighbors house said they hated white, cracker racist too. Then they got in there car and drove away as I was wondering why they said it.

Think maybe people look for racism and discrimination too much in this country?

Status: offline 		           It's all very confusing.  I was raised to believe, and do believe, that racism is when you treat someone differently because of the color of their skin.  These days, it very often seems that the people who get called "racist" are the ones who DONT treat people differently because of that.

           It seems to me like a no-win situation, and I just stay out of it.

Not everybody but some people - yes.  Waaaay too much.  I've been accused of racism for saying that I dislke rap music and for saying February is the shitiest month of the year (because February is Black History month).  Hell, I had somebody accuse me of making a racial slur against Obama because I made a joke about Al Franken.  I'm still trying to figure that one out.  The irony is that I come from a multi-racial family and to accuse me of being a racist is to accuse me of hating members of my family - related not just by marriage but by blood! - people I love and care about deeply.  It just pisses me off.

Oreo *IS* a racial slur, though the person was really silly to assume that you meant it in that sense just from overhearing a part of a conversation. Some people just want to be offended.

Status: offline 		The wisest person I eve knew was my grandfather and I remember a conversation I had with him about five years ago.  He said that in his life time he had seen the “official” message from Black America to White America change.  In the 1960’s the message was: “Hey you’re treating us differently than you treat yourselves and that’s wrong because, really, we’re just like you.”  Nowadays, with Affirmative Action being questioned and reverse discrimination lawsuits, the message has become: “Hey, you trying to treat us the same as you treat yourselves and that’s wrong because, really, we’re different than you.” 

Personally I blame the Jessie Jacksons' and Al Sharptons’ of the world.  Some people make a good living by crying racism as often as they can.

British company Fox's is currently running an ad with a Panda that not only has an Italian American accent but also alludes directly to the notion that he's some sort of Godfather figure in the Mafia mould conveying a message that you'd best eat Fox's biscuits too.

Clearly, biscuits and cookies are dangerous subject matter, heavily wrapped up with ethnic stereotypes.

Good thing they dont make you fat - or they'd be barely mentionable

Yes. Way too many people in this country who just ain't happy unless they're catching someone in the act of disrespecting them.

That reminds me... there's a kosher brand of cookies out there.  Meshuga cookies.  They're actually pretty damn good.

Status: offline 		Hey babe don't worry about what happened. This type of story, even though it does demonstrate that maybe some people are looking for racism too hard, is one to be laughed at lol. It was probably just a misunderstanding. This person heard you saying that, and since your slave was in the house and no one else was around, they assumed you were talking to them. I think it was a funny story LOL.

Status: offline 		Originally, I believe that it was a derogatory term when referring to mulatto people in particular though.

On the subject of cookies though, I'm a good southern boy... I prefer my hydrox to oreo's.  Not that I won't destroy a package of oreos like godzilla on japan though. ;)

You will also hear the following terms describing someone who is a particular color on the outside (skin) but acts White: coconut, banana and apple.
 
Hearing a partial conversation and butting in with an insult is just plain rude.
