First........yes, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Yes, they told me all symptoms are indicative to Lyme Disease. Soooooo.....bloody hell.

I've read extensively and it doesn't seem like it should be a problem if treated. I just like knowing the what-if's so there are no rude little surprises.

Just curious if anyone here has any experience with it and what to watch for.

Absolutely no help at all........ but my Mum got it while she was in Canada staying with my sister a couple of years ago. She didn't know what it was until she got back to the UK. Her leg swelled, she had a hideous bluey-red rash and had flu-like symptons. My recollection of it is pretty sketchy, but she got better pretty quickly and no lasting ill-effects.( which is probably why I can't remember too many details).

I'm afraid I'm not of any help either, just wanted to drop a line wishing you the best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Thank you Marc. It's nothing that I cannot cope with, just the mixture of feeling like I cannot sleep enough, and very sore joints right now.

If it would go away on it's own, no big deal. But when I learned of the long term problems if left untreated, I really don't want to go there.

LaT...i am sorry to read this.  I was blessed by the Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever tick and the only thing i can tell you is the faster the treatment, the better you will do.

Holly, I usually avoid the doctor like the very plague. However, after two weeks of this, and reading about it.......I am going. Grudgingly, but I am going.

LaT, I haven't had it but my sister had a nasty case that took her a year or so to get over.  Unfortunately, she didn't have the usual symptoms until it was pretty far advanced, no rash, no feeling sick, etc. so it took longer both to diagnose it and to be cured of it.  She developed severe joint pain and felt pretty lousy for quite a long time.  She took a lot of antibiotics for about a year, like I said, but she's okay now.

The earlier you catch it the better, and you'll be on antibiotics for awhile, but it is curable. :)  Damn ticks.

Thought I'd add....they'll probably do a blood test to diagnose it, and if it's positive, another one (on the same specimen) to confirm it.  Even if it comes back negative (sometimes there are false negatives), the doc will probably put you on antibiotics anyway as a precaution and maybe repeat the blood test later on.

My oldest Um caught it last year. As others have already mentioned, the sooner the treatment the better. Our GP ordered the test the moment she saw the swollen joints (mostly the knees) and heard about the fatigue and light fever.
He was treated with antibiotics for six weeks, had to rest lots, and was warned against strenuous activities. After the course of antibiotics there were no further problems, and his tests came up clear.
I would advise you to do what you can to help your body through the long stretch of antibiotics, they take their toll, but the blow can be softened. Precautions against yeast infections, eating probiotics, a healthy diet, rest, keeping hydrated, all of those will make it a bit easier, but basically, there is nothing to be done other than getting on with it till the last pill is swallowed.

I hope you will be feeling better soon.

Can't help you other than to say as long as you get it treated early you can recover well.  There are a couple of siblings around us..they didn't diagnose them for years.  Their lives are a living hell now with the pain.
You'll do fine

Hi. I am blessed with an absolutely lovely and brilliant submissive friend, very active in the BDSM community at large, who goes by the name of willo on a BDSM blogspace of which I am a huge fan, (but HTML prohibitions here at CM will not allow Me to post a direct link), who is afflicted and living with this disease. Please message Me privately for the link to her profile, for a very interesting read and links to various websites and other blogspaces that she helps to run, which concern every best and most gracious aspect of D/s you can imagine as well as how coping with Lyme disease fits into all of that. I feel quite certain this will be of help to you. Blessings and vibrant life to all who read these words.

my brother had lymes disease about 10 years ago-ish.

the thing that sent him to the dr was waking up with bells palsey....one side of his face was completely paralyzed.  it took a few tests to find out what it was, and then he was on anti-biotics and, i think one other drug, for a couple of months if memory serves.

in the end, he was fine, no lasting problems at all.

good luck

My grandmother had it, relatively late in life. Sometime in her 60s. An avid outdoorswoman, she was deeply dismayed, convinced it was going to mean major lifestyle changes. Turned out to be a pain in the ass for a couple of months, but she never missed a beat after that. She was still marching around in the woods with binoculars hanging from her neck right until Alzheimer's snatched her up 10 or 15 years later. My best wishes, and I hope it doesn't slow you down any more than it did her.

My father had it about 20 years ago. A round of antibiotics and a flock of guineas to get the lawn emtied of deer ticks was the remedy.

Funny thing though, we did not know it was Lymes until after surgery. It was not letting him heal right.

PRayers and candles go out to you, LT.
